The Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival
29 March-5 April 2009
Over 350 writers descended on Christ Church to talk, debate, and discuss ideas at this year’s festival. And 2009 promises many more! Here are just 3 highlights we can tell you about now…
Peru’s foremost and most distinguished writer, Mario Vargas Llosa, will give the very first Chancellor’s Lecture introduced by the Chancellor of The University of Oxford, Lord Patten, in the Sheldonian Theatre –designed by the seventeenth century architect Sir Christopher Wren.
Wedgwood, England’s finest china company, brings us The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu to talk about Englishness in celebration of their 250th anniversary. And the eminent historian David Starkey will talk about Henry VIII.
Don’t forget you can stay overnight in Christ Church and be part of a literary community mirroring how Oxford came to be with people from all over the world coming together to discuss ideas.

by EmmaD 3 years agoI'm sharing a platform with Martin Brasier, author of Darwin's Lost World, on Sunday 5th March at 10am. If you're around, do come and listen, or just come and say hello afterwards.
