About
This event aims to tell you everything you need to know prior to sending out your work. Is your manuscript ready to submit? Have you read the market right? Which agents should you approach (and do you need one at all)? How should you approach agents? What are they looking for? And what do publishers want, anyway?
We're going to have a day full of workshops, panel events, Q&As, 1-to-1 book doctor sessions (professional authors providing feedback on the first few chapters of delegates work) etc. There's going to be a medley of publishers, agents and authors present, as well as a world class publicist providing invaluable insights on PR strategies.

by Nibs 7 months agoThe Festival of Writing.
I very much enjoyed it. Utterly exhausted me so today, after walking skip I'm settle, cuddled up on sofa with cwtchy planket ready for the grand prix which I'm expecting to fall asleep during.
My book doctor session with Debi Alpa was very useful considering 15 mins is over in a blink, but the slush pile event had an opposite opinion. So I've learned quite a lot from event. Think I'll just blog it. :o) -
by Nibs 7 months agoI'm going. Taxi to cardiff by 6am then taxi from Victoria to venue. See how I last the day. Taxi back to victoria.
All money put aside for it. Now all I need to do is screw my head on straight and sort myself out. -

by philcolbourn 8 months agoAm I right in thinking that submission of material for a Book Doctor review is different to and separate from submission for the Slushpile Live? Yes?

Slushpile Live - further info
Agents may well receive 50 unsolicited manuscripts a week. With each submission, they have to make a rapid, commercially driven decision about whether to (A) reject the MS immediately, (B) read the submission package, but then reject it, or (C) read the submission package, then ask to read the full MS.
Slushpile Live is there to show you how agents & publishers make those decisions - and there to show you how YOU can make sure your manuscript is not one of those rejected. Here's how the process works:
If you want, you can submit your work for review at the event.
To do so, just email us your (i) covering letter, (ii) synopsis, and/or (iii) the opening page of your manuscript.
Email us at info@writersworkshop.co.uk no later than 1 October. You should send your work as a single email attachment in .doc, .docx or .pdf format.
We will select some of this material to be read out live at the Slushpile Live event. (We'll make copies, so everyone will have the relevant material in front of them. We will also divide the audience into two groups, to make the event more intimate.)
Then each selected person will read their work out loud and the agents / authors / publishers on the panel will be asked for instant feedback & comment.
Please note that if your work is selected for review, your work will be commented on in public. If you don't want this, then don't send us your work! You'll still get absolutely masses from the event whether your work is reviewed or not. We also cannot guarantee to review all work that is submitted to us: we try to review a good, representative range of material.
