What's different about Riduna by Diana Jackson? The setting on the
island of Alderney, Channel Islands is unique and unspoilt. A gem
to discover if you wish to get away from it all. The story begins
in a gentle way and I am not ashamed to say that the lives of some
of the community are described, as well as the main characters,
'giving a feel of a costume drama' as one reader put it, when she
blamed me for a very late night, when she couldn't put it down.
Anyone who grew up on an island will empathise with the constant
struggle between a desire to seek adventure outside such a narrow
way of life and the security of home. This gives rise to
conflicting aspirations of the young. Many will also identify with
the stress of displacement, as we live in an age where many migrate
between towns and countries, leaving their roots far behind. It is
a love story but it is set back in the nineteenth century where the
strict moral code of the islanders also causes tension between
young and old. It can be bought on Amazon and in some key
bookshops, some of which are listed on my small web site: www.dianamaryjackson.co.uk
