No. I have worked with writers for years (some on the more scholaraly end of the spectrum than others) but what it boils down to is 'do you have a great story inside you'? I was recently at an Ambit poetry reading where poets voiced concern that creative writing courses can be too didactic and restrictive and actual inhibit creativity. I think that being well-read generally helps as you can see what techniques work where. Most writers will find thier writing improves with time as they have more writing experience to draw from but don't feel you need letters after your name to create something brilliant.
