I've been looking to get my short science fiction story published
in a magazine but I'm having trouble on what magazines will publish
my story, is there anybody out there who can give me some info? And
I would love it if you could also give me some info on how to write
to a publisher.
I've been writing for a long time but I've only recently gotten
more serious about publishing my work so I just want to make sure I
get things right :)
Thank you.

DMC, small magazines come and go, but the most comprehensive list
is here:
http://www.duotrope.com/
The most important thing when submitting is to follow the
submission guidelines on the site very carefully and
conscientiously. Most mags won't look twice at anyone who doesn't
send what they want, in the form they want it, let along consider
it for publication: why should they?
The other thing is to actually get to know a mag before you send it
stuff. That's probably the single biggest grumble of editors (most
of whom do it in their spare time, and keep the mags going on a
wing and a prayer): that writers send them stuff which shows they
don't have a clue what the actual mag is like. Not only is it a
waste of both your and their time and effort, it's also rude, in
that it suggests you can't be bothered to take what they do
seriously.
It is fiercely competitive and most people do a lot of submitting
before they get anywhere, but it's worth keeping going: one
acceptance can transform how you feel about your writing. And the
sf/f community is very buzzy: I'd also suggest you spend some times
surfing blogs and e-zines to get a feel for what's going on. There
are lots of writerly blogs which will help you to get to know the
field.
Very good luck with it.

Hi Emma, thank you for the advice, I have submitted the story to
Interzone magazine and followed all their guidlines and researched
their magazine (even bought a copy). If you're not busy would you
be able to take a look at the story on my profile please? It's
called Beacon and I've done a bit more editing on the copy I sent
off so the one on my profile is still a bit old. But some critique
would be appreciated :)
Thank you,
Dale
