These examples are taken from "Eats, Shoots & Leaves," an
excellent book on the subject!
500 years before e-mail,
this puzzle was going around: Every Lady in this
land
Hath twenty nails on each hand;
Five and twenty on hands and feet;
And this is true, without deceit.
(Every lady in this land has twenty nails. On each hand, five; and
twenty on hands and feet.)
Punctuate the following puzzler:
"Charles the First walked and talked half an hour after his head
was cut off."
(Answer: "Charles the First walked and talked. Half an hour after,
his head was cut off.")
"My son, if sinners entice thee consent thou,
not refraining thy foot from their way."
or is it,
"My son, if sinners entice thee consent thou not,
refraining thy foot from their way."
In which sentence did all
the people manage to get tickets? The people in the
queue who managed to get tickets were very satisfied.
The people in the queue, who managed to get tickets, were very
satisfied.
