Great series of podcasts on the writing craft

I've just discovered a great series of podcasts which are free, and add up to a brilliant course on the craft of creating great stories. The podcasts particularly focus on story structure - writing stories that "work".

On the podcasts, seasoned editor Shawn Coyne mentors aspiring writer Tim Grahl on various aspects of constructing great stories. They include insightful live critiques of Tim's draft efforts.

You can find the podcasts, along with lots of other resources at https://storygrid.com

In terms of the podcasts, you can also find them all here, with Episode 1 (And That's What Life Is All About) at the very bottom.

Enjoy!

Thanks for this, Philippa - although your direct link to storygrid.com seems to go somewhere else ;-)

Whoops. You're right. Have taken the wonky link out. Just type in storygrid.com and you'll get there. x

The Story Grid book is excellent too. I'm working my way through the podcasts, mainly splurging whilst decorating or out for a walk. Takes time to get through them all but it helps to reinforce what's in the book. Just a little put off by references to films I haven't seen (and don't particularly wish to see) but you can't have everything!

Ah, another fan! Yes, I haven't seen all the films they mention, and I haven't read / got the book, but I find the podcasts very clear, and I like how Tim does such a good job of asking all the questions we are too afraid to ask ourselves!

Have just looked through the first podcast, (which I found only because you gave its title - thanks) but I can't work out how to find the next one so I can work through them all in order. I've signed up but only got email about new course. Any tips?

Hi Hil,

Yes, I've realised the link above doesn't work properly, sorry!

You should actually be able to find them all listed out here:

They seem to have changed the titles, so Soft Launch is now And That's What Life is All About. It's Episode 1, right at the bottom.

Alternatively, if you go to this page, you'll find the original (same) Soft Launch podcast.

Then, if you work UP the page, you'll get the podcasts in order. At the bottom of the listed podcasts, you'll find a button to go to "newer podcasts". Then work up from the bottom of each page list.

They haven't got a very good layout, have they?!

I"ve editted the original topic post too so that the links work now. I hope!

Ah, that's better. Thank you. The top link is the one I wanted. It seems to be a whole different website (?) But the same podcasts.
