Your book sounds really interesting, Billy. Just the sort of things
I'm into. Is there is a broch in it?

I visited Jarlshof and Old Scatness. I've been fascinated ever
since. A broch and you're buying drinks - York's looking good!

Here's a thought. Organisers and pros have red dots on their name
badges. (Made me feel like an advance sale in an exhibition.) Why
doesn't someone email the organisers to ask if Cloudsters could
have a yellow dot or something for identification purposes?

Hello Everyone,
My name is Dawn and I live in Chesterfield (yes the one with the
Crooked Spire), best known for being the place that you pass
through on the way to the Peak District. I have just read all of
the posts and feel awash with feelings including apprehension,
excitement and awe. I have never been to a writers' festival before
and do not really know what to expect.
I have been focussed on the submission most of the time since
registering, but now that that is out of the way and the programme
has arrived I can give my full attention to panicking! My
submission is a children's story...I love all kinds of writing but
this one was the one that I felt was most finished! I am currently
working on a play...it has only been 10 years in development.
This year I have vowed to get some things finished!
It will be lovely to meet all of you in the flesh...I am thinking
of sticking my own yellow dot on.
Best wishes,
Dawn

Hello everyone,
I'm a festival newbie this year and very excited to be going
tomorrow. I'm Heather, an English expat living in northern
Finland. I'm combining the festival with my annual trip back to
the UK to see the family. I've just finished (although still
fidling with) my first novel - womens fiction but a bit of a
thriller (am rubbish at this whole genre business if I'm honest
and never know what to call it) - and am extremely
excited/nervous/awash with terror at the thought of the festival
tomorrow.
Can't wait to meet you all.
Heather

I'm Anthony and I really dislike leaving things until the last
minute ...
I don't know whether there's any real value in saying hello to
prospective Yorkies when everyone's packing or sleeping, but at
least I can say I tried. York '11 is a return trip for me too. Last
year was spectacularly useful and I would encourage anyone going
for the first time to say hello indiscriminately. Everyone wants to
chat but no-one (some Clouders apart) wants to start.
I'll apologise now if I've approached you over the weekend and said
"you don't know me but ...". This is meant to be an ice-breaker
after all.

Does that mean I'll have both a red and a yellow dot? I'll feel
like a teenager with acne.
Newbies - fear not. You will be blown away. Spending a whole
weekend devoted to writing and writers will leave you feeling
inspired ... and knackered. Worth every moment.
