Just wondering what the general dress code was for the dinner on
the saturday? was it mainly shirt and tie with/without jacket or
did people wheel out the black tie??

Wasn't there last year, but if anyone can comment on the dress code
for women that would also be great! And what are people going to
wear during the day? Is it a jeans sort of thing, or smart casual,
or am I just overthinking this?! Laura

There were certainly some lovely men in dress suits - and also a
few in jeans.
For the women, a few long dresses, but mainly a 'nice' frock or
smart trousers - smart casual /cocktail thingy.
Most people made time for a wash first. :)

And then there was me.
Jeans and a short-sleeved shirt. No-one batted an eye. Not even
when I told Harry that he was a seriously sick puppy. Whisks gently
took me aside and explained that I wasn't drunk enough by half and
handed me a bottle of brandy. I'm afraid the rest is sorely fucked
up from there...
Whisks looked nice though ;c)

Wasn’t at the gala last year but, during the day, almost everyone
was casual…still, I’d advise against slogan t-shirts such as 'If I
wanted to listen to an arsehole, I’d fart' or 'I don’t need sex –
the Government screws me every day'… unless, of course, you can
prove you designed the shirt/slogan yourself: demonstrates
imagination/creativity – always a plus – to agents&publishers
:)

In the day last year for the friday mini-course until the break I
was very formal as I had come straight from a funeral, but got
changed into skinny jeans and a decent top - which was pretty much
my dress code for the whole weekend. A little more dressed up from
my usual jeans and hoody.
For the saturday night I wore a knee length cocktail dress which
was white, black and purple. This year I'm going full length in
black and nude (the colour, before any men start commenting).

Tors, that sounds very glam, can't wait to see it! And hearing that
you will be going in a full length dress makes me think I might
pull my full length dress out from the back of the
wardrobe...

Tors posted a pic of her super dress beforehand - which was how I
recognised her!
As far as I remember, the male agents were in suits.
And thank you, Woody Woodster, for your nice comment. I might have
looked nice before the outdoor brandy session started and I donned
the red socks cos my feet were frozen! Past caring by then.

Tors, that's lovely. And three outings totally justifies the price.

Thanks guys.
I am a bit of a slob so the jeans and hoody during the day should
be no probs, but i think i'll go middle of the road and pull out a
long sleeve shirt and slacks for the dinner ;-) May stick a jacket
in the car just in case!!!

The Old Man of the Woods is right as usual: Whisks looked
exceptionally glamorous, as did all the girls. I've forgotten what
I was wearing. In fact, the gala dinner is the bit of the festival
I remember least. But I do remember the hangover.

Here's a photo of some of us at last year's festival. Not the Gala
Night, however. Maybe someone else can put up a link to one of us
in our glad rags.

Glad someone posted on this. And thank you Tors for posting a link-
I now have some idea of what the other females will be going for. I
always over-worry on what to wear, glad to know that it is pretty
much anything (within reason, sense, and legality) goes.

I'll be going for something glam too, either floor length or
cocktail dress - haven't decided which yet :-)

John, I think you should pair it with the bloomers, further down
the page - then you really will be a wandering minstrel / bard /
storyteller / thingy. And I don't think you'll find anyone else in
the same outfit!
