I just thought I'd post this because I nearly forgot to get my 1:1
submission off in the post before the 1st March deadline.
Anyone else as daft as me?

HEEEELLLPPP! What goes in the covering letter? I'm trying to dash
one off tonight so I can post my stuff tomorrow and am getting
myself in a terrible tizzy with it!

John, I'm up there with you on the daft-scale! I only wrote the
intro letter yesterday, after realising that march is a mere week
away. I just sort of squeezed my eyes shut and typed the letter
without having a giant mental debate about it. Of course, now I'm
freaking out and am somehow convinced that the intro to my book is
pivotal. I'm going to hope it's not, keep my eyes closed, and post
it tomorrow.
Thanks for the reminder!

Ro, these guys are professionals – they'll look at the writing
first. At least, I hope they will, because my letter wouldn't sell
a can of baked beans.

It would have to be damn good to persuade me to buy beans. Yuk.

Right, my mission in York. Can I persuade a certain author of
contemporary thrillers to buy beans? Or is that breaking too many
rules?

Thanks again John, it's posted now and I've decided to not dwell on
it.
Re the beans; I think you should be loose with the rules for
amusment's sake, once you know what you're doing...

Same boat as you Ro. Posted mine today in an extra padded and
super-secure envelope.
Won't be dwelling on it now.
They will decide...
...though I do think they will simple ring the 10 minute bell
before I've even entered the 1-2-1 to signal their discontent
with the chapters.
...and then I'll hit the bar
[literally with my head]

CRAP!!! I totally forgot. I've got a day to pull a cover letter out
of thin air. This should be fun. Thank God I already edited my
opening for SCBWI Japan's (Society of Children's Book Writers and
Illustrators) Creative Exchange.
Thanks for the reminder John! I'll have to buy you a lollipop when
I see you.
