It's a story of a long friendship, and of two Tesco bags for Life,
stuffed with an amazing manuscript- 1400 pages and all out of
order!
My old friend Kathleen Herbert, once well known as a scholar and
historical fiction writer (Queen of the Lightning, Ghost in the
Sunlight, Bride of the Spear, Lost Gods of England, Peaceweavers
and Shieldmaidens, Spellcraft) fell ill, having had a stroke, and
couldn't gather the strength to get her latest book published- so I
did it! It took 8 months from carrier bag to published book, and
involved commissioning an editor and designer, as well as setting
up a new publishing business; all in a day's work for a writer! -
And I'm fortunate enough to have writers, designers and editors in
my family!
So here it is: A vivid and scholarly portrait of England in the
reign of Charles II. The joy of the Restoration is a fading memory,
and conflicts of land ownership and religious toleration are
raging. The story is set on the Furness Peninsula in Northern
England and concerns how ordinary folks survive, live and love in
times of political upheaval and social conflict.
