Hi all,
As some of you may know, I started a new blog six weeks ago
called Let's Get Digital, Digital.
The primary reason was to document all the huge changes that have
taken place in the publishing industry in the last couple of
years and track my progress as I self-published my first short
stories (and eventually, longer work).
Having looked at what else was out there, I felt there was room
for a step-by-step guide to digital self-publishing, written for
a beginner, by a beginner, with an international perspective
(it's a global $90bn business after all).
Every few days I have been posting a new chapter covering
everything from writing your story, getting a cover, uploading it
to Amazon and elsewhere, and letting the world know its there.
The series is almost done, there are only a couple of sections
left on pricing and a final piece on marketing, as well as an
addendum on practicalities such as tax, copyright, and ISBNs.
From the beginning, the idea was to turn all these posts into an
e-book, and it will be called Let's Get Digital,
Digital. The first part will cover the Digital Revolution
and how the publishing industry has changed forever, covering
topics such as Piracy, Amazon, Why Print is Doomed, and Why It's
A Great Time To Be A Writer. The second part wil be a practical
step-by-step guide to digital self-publishing from editing and
formatting your story to blogging, websites and leveraging social
networking to promote your work.
One of the most amazing things about the self-publishing
community is the way everyone shares their time, information, and
experiences to help everyone else. As part of giving something
back to the community, I will be offering it as a free download
on my website for all my regular blog readers, forum friends, and
anyone else who wants it. It will be publicly available.
At the same time, I will sell it for $2.99 on Amazon. It's an
experiment to see if anyone will pay for something that is freely
available elsewhere. I'm betting they will, but time will tell.
In any event, I have about 60k in raw form, and I have just
finalised the structure with my editor. There is a bit of work to
do - I have to rewrite all the blog posts so it all hangs
together nicely in book form - but I hope to have it available
for everyone in a month or two.
In the meantime, you can read the step-by-step guide on my blog
here:
I hope you find it useful.
Regards,
Dave
