Hi guys :-)

I have read your comments about DIP and I have been dealing with them since 13 July 2011.

I was accepted to the P.O.W.E.R. on the 20th of July.

"Despite the risks, we are confident in a productive relationship that will yield much in return for all parties involved. Over the last year we have planned, developed and now present to you the P.O.W.E.R. program, which was created with both the Publisher’s and Author’s best interests in mind. Partnership-Publishing is the new way of Publishing, offering writers less exposed the opportunity to traditionally publish minus the many layers of red tape. "

this was in the email!

I am very happy with them and I will keep you guys updated

Hi Grizelda

I believe you are posting on behalf of DIP, as a DIP rep.

Hi Grizelda

Seems DIP likes South African authors :)

They liked my book too... said they were considering a deal which would have really worked for me (I won't disclose the details here), but that was the last I heard of them. Anyway... the proof is in the pudding: Have they sold any of your books yet?

I'm keen to know how it goes, so feel free to update me.

Cheers,
Lost Hobbit

Rough rule-of-thumb wisdom..... if you are sent a complimentary comment, which reads in a manner that can be cut n pasted to anyone.... i.e. "your work is great, it has potential" (mentioning no name, no substance, no method).... then it has NO genuine interest IN YOU or IN YOUR work.

Just my online rule-of-thumb.

Good guidanec, LED, and I'd certainly agree with you. Having said that, if they have managed to get your book title and name correct in the body of their letter, it doesn't necessarily mean any different. It might just mean they know how to create variable fields in form letters.

Cool

Good pointer Tony.... Should thay have such a prepared letter with "variable field" input, I would feel compelled to have some sport.... I would sign up named as: "Ohdearweowe Youatenner" with a book entitled "token" Then wait for a cut n paste (with variable fields) reply, as such: Dear 'Ohdearweowe Youatenner'. Your book 'token' has been approved. Now, said payments should be made a.s.a.p. I'd leave it a week, then enquire the delay of said payments... my £10 book token

I always cherish the story - I think it might be Harry's - of sending off a washing machine manual to one of these "publishers" and getting a warm and wonderfully encouraging reply about how delighted the "publisher" would be to publish this admirable work...

And I know Debi's posted it elsewhere, but it suits this thread too: a field guide to the differenct between small press, indie press, self-publishing service, vanity publisher, subsidy publisher, author mills etc. etc.
