Great quote Cathy, thanks for posting. Activity on this group is a bit intermittent, but we're always happy to see more historical writers. Also @Betty well done for publishing your short story book, looks fascinating.

Of course I liked it, Baz. I remember messaging you when first you joined the Cloud; wondering if ... as a Baron of Hull ... you were in any way related to my Great Uncle Captain William Barron; a Master Mariner and writer of narratives on the old ...

Welcome to new members. Things have been a bit quiet here for a while, but feel free to post anything. Fans of historican fiction might like to check out RichardB's blog 'A neglected talent' currently on the main wall about the novel Pavane. This is alt hist/science fiction but feels like historical fiction so well has the author realised the world in which the book is set.

A small publisher I am acquainted with is looking for a novel about William the Conqueror, should anyone have one in the works or in a drawer somewhere. The brief is: 'it would be better if it was more in the heroic traditional vein of Bernard Cornwell's style, rather than a Camus-treatment of the dark ennui of the conqueror and the meaningless of war. (Believe, I've seen a lot of these over the last few years.) I don't mind a bit of edge and updating, but it should be solid history, some humor, good battle scenes, well paced, and a compelling character development of William'.
