Hi all, just wanted to make sure that you guys saw this - http://www.writersworkshop.co.uk/blog/announcing-the-greenhouse-funny-prize/

The Greenhouse Funny prize is open to un-agented writers who are currently resident in the UK and Ireland. Entries will be judged by me and guest judge Leah Thaxton, Publisher of Egmont Children’s Books (and discoverer of Andy Stanton).

The winner will get an offer of representation from the Greenhouse and a full weekend ticket to the wonderful Festival of Writing that runs 7-9 September ’12 (worth £525). The winner will also be presented with a bottle of champagne at the Festival’s gala dinner on the Saturday night. The runners up will each get five of my favourite funny books, and maybe even a comedy mug.

Hi all. I'm new to the Cloud. I write for YA, but have come to a bit of a standstill. Joining WordCloud and possibly (?) booking for York are meant to make me get started again, though. Looking forward to reading/writing/chatting...

Hi everyone. I'm new to the Writers' Workshop, and was due to start the Writing for Children course yesterday. No video or assignment has arrived either at my e-mail address or my Cloud account, though. Does anyone know whether they've been sent, or am I looking in the wrong places? Thanks.

Have posted prologue and chapter 1 on general critiques of my current project. It's aimed at 8-12 yr olds, so might be of interest to those writing for a similar age group?

Any thoughts...My prologue has been edited by my agent adn is everything I hoped it would be in terms of 'grab factor'. But then chapter 1 aims to explain why my 'hero' is going where he's going through two separate flashbacks after he wakes up from a nightmare. It feels clunky and clumsy...not sure how I can get the info across to set the scene as much as I need to. Are two flashbacks too much in one chapter?

Thought I'd join this group since my book is aimed at the 8-15 year age group. I hope we can help each other solve some of our writing issues and hopefully get some honest feedback. Not that I don't trust my friends and family, but they may be telling me what I want to hear and not what I need to hear.

Thought I'd join this group, 'cos working with reluctant readers at a local primary school has filled me with a desire to get kids reading! Written one book (four or five years in the making), and just starting out on a series. Struggling to get the first chapter right...so I've carried on writing and will come back to it later. Does anyone else struggle to 'set the scene' without lecturing the reader?
