About

now that an agent has finally said some lovely things about my writing, i got to thinking back over all the terrible feedback i (and other writers ) have had from agents and editors over the years. go on, blog away!

i'll start the ball rolling:

one author who subsequently became a bestseller, was told by the first agent to read his stuff: "everyone gets bouts of creativity from time to time; if it happens again i suggest you take up balsa wood carving."

the first agent to read my work said it read like a school essay, and that nobody would publish it, although he actually suggested i self-publish it! he obviously liked the idea that i'd have 497 unread copies lying around the house for eternity.

the fictitious agent in the novel i've just finished told students on a writers' course that they might as well burn their books in the corner of their gardens because they'd attract more attention that way!

come on harry, i bet you have some corkers!
