About
Welcome to "History Book", a group to inspire the imagination.
I don't want birthdays, don't want births and deaths.
(Although some deaths can be seen as historically interesting which could send the synapses on route to something (October 15 1946 - Hermann Goering, a Nazi war criminal and founder of the Gestapo, poisoned himself just hours before his scheduled execution)).
What this group wants is subjects that would be of interest to writers, something we can work with.
Something to maybe create a spark.
Can be anything, but not boring.
Not Cliff Richards born today, YAWN...
Stuff like, well everyone knows 1066 was the Battle of Hastings but did you know that it happened today (14th October)?
If anyone has any local knowledge, any snippets of local historical gossip they'd like to share. Please feel free to tell us, because these nuggets are often hidden and lost in the precious ether of time.
There is a General Topic for any undated info you may have and also a Local History topic.
Eventually there should be 366 topics(days) with each topic having several entries, the more the better.
As I can't sort the topics into any order it will become extremely tedious if you want to look for a particular date so here's a very usefull tip:
Type, for example, October 6th, into the search box (top left) and it'll take you straight to this day.
If you click VIEW ALL on the FORUM it will take you to today's date. (So long as I remember to put it as "sticky" for that day. If not you'll have to scroll down and find it, or use the above tip.)
Once I have a whole month of goodies I shall colate the entires into date order then create a new topic for that month.
**Please don't take these dates as completely 100% accurate. If you're going to use the information for an article or story etc., then please do verify, as I'm coming across inconsistencies in my books and the net**

by Norsaxhound 1 year agoHi All, As a joining member, I'll bring you up to date about me.
My subject is, 11th - 12th century Anglo-Norman history but there is a snag. Having just completed my first historical novel relating to this period, am in the process of trying to get an agent or any agent interested in my book. So I can't divulge much info but if you just want history data of this period, fire away. -

by AlanP 1 year agoOn 16 October Arthur Anderson, previously accountants to toffs, gentry and energy fraudsters was nicked over the Enron Scandal, evidently.
I know that's tomorrow, but I won't be here then. -

by norman normington 1 year agoOn this day today Norman played his new drum kit using two cut down dowels as he had forgotten to buy some drum sticks. His coordination of the kit is a bit off but rhythm is there nicely. He feels about 17 again, but only in his head!

by Mike in the West 1 year ago"On this day" is a great concept. However, I have some stuff that occurred in a September centuries ago, shall I try to live another eleven months in order to tell you or can it be mentioned at any time? How do you want to deal with stuff that hasn't got a fixed single date but instead is always celebrated in, for example, the third week in September?
