About
Whether you want to escape for a few minutes from novelling or are just plain fanatical about film, this is the place for you. You can choose to review the latest blockbuster or analyse the art of cinematography, pick apart a soap or post your alternative Oscar nominations. Whatever floats your boat. (Oh, by the way, if you do write a review, please put a warning at the beginning as to whether it contains spoilers. Thanks.)
Let us begin in the traditional manner:-
Hello. My name is Kim and I am a film buff.

by Robin 7 months agoThanks for the invite Vanessa but you'd have to be a more successful writer than me to afford a ticket.

by Robin 1 year agoI think the Killing Fields might be a bit depressing for a desert island. Even one which apparently comes with a DVD player and TV.

by Steve 1 year agoHi Axel, my film choices would be a bit conventional: Gandhi, The Killing Fields, The Shawshank Redemption, The Godather I & II, Die Hard, The Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Love Actually, and Lock Stock.

by Robin 1 year agoSounds like a good game.
Ummmm. City of Lost Children (fave film), Sunrise (fave silent film), Airplane, His Girl Friday, Our Hospitality (must have comedies on a desert island), Once, Star Wars (can I have the original trilogy or is that 3 films? If I can only have one then the first), Lawrence of Arabia, Seven Samurai (both brilliant of course but long films are also just a good call on a desert island), and I'd like to keep the last slot open so that I can change my mind on a day to day basis depending on how I'm feeling as I don't have any Hitchcock, Ford, Capra, Harryhausen, Lang etc etc -
by Axel 1 year agoHello all buffs,
I am new to London (well, been here a year) and new to this site and interested to communicate about oh so many topics. I am a art film maker. That has been my medium for many years and it continues to be how I think. But I have made some major shifts in my life, including moving to London, and feel like it is time to explore writing as a medium for me. Still, I continue to consume films through such great places as cinema paradiso. I tend to enjoy older films, genres such as westerns, early cinema, and looking at directors and their bodies of work as well as actors and their bodies of work. I'm more familiar with American film but am interested to learn more about English and others.
Some favorite films? Does this group have a list?
Mine are: Cinema Paradiso, Wings of Desire, Red Beard, Kurosawas's Dreams and just about all his films, (like lots of mid century japaese films), just saw Aelita, Queen of Mars with original sound track at BFI and it was magical. Like alot of Robert Duvalls films, Judy Dench, Paul Newman (The Hustler), and now things are just popping up out of my mind all over the place. If anyone wants to see the kinds of films I make, you can look me up, Axel Forrester, on You Tube and see a few there from art installations. So, just like good books (I'm collecting people's favorite fiction for my reading list), I'm also interested in recommendations about film. Someday I will edit my film list more to be more thoughtful about it. A good exercise might be what 10 films would you take with you to a desert island if you could only have 10 to see over and over for the rest of your life? -
by Steve 2 years ago'Ello Robin, Welcome to The Cloud and this group - I'm going to take a look at your blog post.
