Adverbially Challenged

If any Cloudies feel like having a bit of fun with writing, check out the great Chis Fielden's writing challenges...

Stories get published on the site, then once they have all the entries, in an Anthology!

There are a few - 'Adverbially', 'Colossal Cliche', 'Nonsense' and 'Sensory'.

Authors have to take part in promoting the Anthologies, which I think is good experience:

This was harder to do than I expected. Each time I read back over the story I was itching to cut the adverbs out. Thanks for sharing the link.

And it's been published! Too much excitement.

Well done Barb. I actually grew up with Chris (name dropping I know) and found over the winter when I was after a push to get back to writing that this was just what I needed. I was ridiculously chuffed when adverbially challenged 2 came out to see my name in it! He has got a lot of good information, competitions and other things on his site, it's definitely worth a look.

Well done, Barb, great entry! I do love these challenges :-) I found when I was doing the 'Cliche' one I kept wanting to put adverbs in... which I found interesting, as though writing 'badly' in one way encourages other errors.

Tarquilla, know what you mean: these challenges seem a fun way to re-start writing enthusiasm. Many of us take writing so very seriously a lot of the time; it's good to let go a bit. Chris seems a genuinely nice guy - from our cyber communications!

He is a nice bloke Catasshe. It is fun isn't it to break the rules sometimes.

I have had a go in the nonsense and silly poetry categories. The webpage is a bit disjointed but Chris was happy to reply to email queries. Fun stuff and money to charity. What's not to love?

Our John Alty has a story up now as well - great stuff.

And me (cliche and adverb challenge). Fun to do and fun to read - they're all great. On Chris's site, his page on what makes him laugh has some hilarious clips. Worth a look if you haven't already. The voicemail message about a road accident is one of the best.

Ha, John S Alty's is great! 'Devilishly devised competition'... Jenni's adverbial one is hilarious, I knew Cloudies would come out with absolute corkers :-) Is yours up yet in the nonsense category Mezz?
