For newbies who may not realise, this is part three of a continuing chicken story - originally written a year ago. :)

The description of hen 'tag' made me laugh out loud. And there was something lovely about the idea of going into the hen house to get reassured. But Shiraz? Was it home-made?

Thank you all. My three little Apricots are now fine figures of hens (phew! they're all girls) and I now have my next batch - startlingly different personalities and providing a rich seam of fresh inspiration.

I think I should have hatched chickens instead of children. Much less hassle.

I love my chickens and I love your chicken blog. Mavis, Mildred, Maise, Maud, Matilda, Maria, Maureen, Mabel, Madge and Molly all take themselves off to bed at the same time, as you say, when the light dims to a certain point. However, if I try and shoo them in early, they lead me a merry dance. They eventually give in when my husband comes to lend a hand but they always go in the same order and if one goes out of order, they all have to come out again and start again! It's hilarious.

You always have the ability to evoke such feeling and that, to me, is the mark of a superb writer. You've created a vivid world full of the unknown wonder (and hilarity) of chicken and foxes. Utterly captivating. With your amazing garden and your kitchen full of rainbow liqueurs ... what an awesome home you must have.

I can't believe that it is a year since your big girls were little girls. You know how much I love these stories, and this one doesn't disappoint. Like Woody, I am convinced that someone will publish them. Those that have rejected them, don't know what they are missing out on. Keep 'em coming Whisks, they are delightful.

Awww, excellent work Whisks, this is lovely to read. Makes me want to add chickens to the list of animals on my must-live-with list. Hope they're all on their way to bed right about now and not just toying with you until you're spitting feathers:p

Inspiring writing, Whisks. If the persistence of your girls to get their way rubs off on you, then the contract to share more stories with more captivated readers will be yours.

Thanks muchly, peeps, you're too kind and spurring me on to write some more. Especial thanks to those who commented last time around, for being bothered to do so again.
Karen - you have 10 x 'M' names? Goodness gracious me - that must get confusing.
And thank you Marion - my home isn't really awesome - only in my mind's eye.
Appreciate all these nice comments, truly I do. You're all just great. I must confess that I never know if a story is any good until a surge of people reassure me, so thanks for giving your time to comment and buoying me up. x
P.S. Inky - my brand new chicks cheep long after I've gone to bed and start some time before I wake up, so no - they haven't got the hang of things yet.
