I do not think
I can honestly say,
That I have ever cried
More than I did yesterday,
For my gorgeous cat
Has passed away.

I do not think
I can honestly say
That I have ever cried
More than I did yesterday,
Except, perhaps,
Today.

Love, Ez

Rest in peace my beautiful little ginger son.
I miss you so much.

Oh, Ez! I'm sorry. I remember when my old cat died in her sleep I had to wear dark glassed for about 2 weeks safterwards. I'm sure lots of people share the experience. We're in good company. Fantasy writer Neil Gaiman's cat had to be put to sleep last week and he was very upset. (No - I don't know him personally. It's on his blog.) Cats really do mean a lot.

Sorry to hear about your moggie passing away. Hopefully he's chasing mice (or a ball of twine) somewhere in the great blue yonder.

    Oh Ez :-(
My heart breaks. Understand your not wanting to leave the house. I didn't either. Not for weeks and weeks. Couldn't speak to anyone - couldn't eat - couldn't sleep...

We had to have one of ours put to sleep last November. She was on my lap when the vet did it and it was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. It can feel like such a betrayal. I cried too and there are still times when I remember her and the feeling in intense. So I know how you feel and it hurts like hell.

I'm so sorry to hear this - it's horrible to lose a beloved cat. I lost my boy a few years ago at the grand old age of 21 - I'd had him since I was 7, and it was heartbreaking. *hugs*

Ez, I'm so sorry. Many of us have been there and it's always horrible. Know that you're virtually hugged. Beautiful poem, btw, simple, clear, understated, moving.

    *Man hugs*

It's so depressing when you lose a good pussy - especially a ginger one. I still think fondly of my first one, Tracy, 5'1 of squirming fun... *sniff*

Ah... Yes... Sorry... Chin up mate.

I have never had a cat, but I remember having to put down both my dogs (at different times). I cried for a week and the hurt is still there when I think about it. I can't say much to comfort you. Just sending you some virtual hugs.

Aw, sorry Ez. I know how you feel. I still miss my dog that we had all through my childhood and he's been gone about 15 years now.

So sorry to read this about Charlie. We take these little creatures to our hearts and they become family. Their passing is no small thing in our lives. I send a big hug. xx

Ez, it is a beautiful poem. I'm not a poet, but here's my word tribute to Martley, who was our eldest cat.

Martley, you decided your own fate. You wouldn't eat. You said, 'I am in pain. I've had enough. This is how I want it.' And so, we had to say goodbye. I see you everywhere about the house, miss you bunting me awake at 6 o'clock each morning, but most of all I miss your loud, part-Burmese meow. We had great times together, walks over the fields, over streams and hills. You always arrived home first, waiting for me to catch up and pour you a big bowl of milk. Thankyou, Mart, for all the wonderful times you gave us. Martley Cat, white/tabby boy, 1st May 1991 - 3rd July 2009. Rest in Peace, old friend.

Ez, I've only just found this and I wanted to add my voice to all the others saying how sorry I am. Cats are true members of the family and are very special animals. I'm sending you a hug.

    Beep!
So sorry to hear that you too had to endure this pain and heartache. I still get tearful, to be honest. Not very butch and manly is it? Sigh.

Thank you Spangles, I shall take comfort in your hug and not waste it. Someday soon I may pick myself up, dust myself off and start all over again, with the writing and the cat homing (I was going to say "owning" but, as every cat "owner" knows, you don't "own" a cat. They, however, do "own" you.)

I guess this means that you will soon consider opening your door to another cat. This would be a good move. Our first cat died and we went to the cats' protection league after a couple of weeks and applied to a series of kittens. One in particular chose us so we offered her a lift home. 13 years later she still rules our roost, refuses to sleep anywhere but our bed, will rather starve if the food isn't gourmet and in recent years has been allowed (by my women) to clean the dinner plates (really!!).

She's great fun and keeps goal better than David James, provided it's only paper balls flicked across the room.

I'm not going to hug you, by the way.

Yes, they certainly do 'own' us. I've been owned by two of them for nearly six years now. It's nice to know that you still get tearful about your cat - it shows that you have a loving heart! It's the people who are emotionally untouched by such things who worry me.

We had a very brief and tragic foray in kitty territory last summer. Eight months later we're just about ready to try again. Two little ginger and white Toms are joining our family on Good Friday. The red carpet has been rolled out and sprinkled with catnip.
