Does anybody know Edinburgh well?

Hi Cloudy pals,

I hope that you are all dandy.

I haven't been on the cloud much of late :( as i've been busy doing market research for a new client. I will be arranging some seminars in the autumn for David Baboulene, story consultant, story and subtext scholar, and regular contributor to Writing Magazine.
The seminars will be for authors, aspiring authors, scriptwriters and producers.
The first two seminars will be in The Midlands (Birmingham), then Liverpool and Edinburgh. We will soon be rolling these seminars out across the country.

I will post more information on here for if any of you guys are interested, and i'll talk to Harry about setting up a cloudy discount for you all.

Now, back to the reason for this brief blog / request for help; does anyone know of a fabulous venue possibility in Edinburgh? It needs to seat up to 60 people. I'm doing some research online but any recommendations are gratefully received.

Thanks guys :)

Keeks. I sometimes work with a firm in Edinburgh that might be able to suggest somewhere suitable. Although I'm not sure if my main contact is still on maternity leave I can ask. Do you have a budget?

Kiki, there's loads of great places in Edinburgh. There's a huge number of excellent hotels with conference facilities, from the corporate (like the Balmoral or the Best Western Edinburgh Capital) to the more niche (Channings or The Howard). or places like The Royal Botanical Gardens, or some of the art galleries, all of which host conferences. Or try The Hub? Or The Assembly Rooms? When I had my business, my favourite client was in Edinburgh, and they sponsored parts of literary festivals like the Hay and the Cheltenham Literary Festival, so they might even be interested in helping as they were very interested in all things books!

Also worth asking Edinburgh or Napier Universities as they will have conference facilities for hire at various venues. Not sure what their prices are or how to contact them but know they definitely do it because my mum works at Edinburgh Uni and sorts out conferences etc. through them. I can ask her for contact details if that'll help?

A few conventional suggestions came back. The one which stood out for me at least is The Malt Whiskey Society.

    Nice room, evidently.

I missed seeing this yesterday but yes, Alan, The Malt Whisky Society is very nice. I went to a wedding reception there a few years ago.
