GUINNESS AND THE BEE

I shouldnt have said I was looking forward to a quiet weekend. Especially when the window was open and the gremlins could be listening...

Imagine the scene - washing done, dogs sorted first thing, house settled. Grown up daughter, home for weekend,  snuggled on settee plus duvet for serious dog cuddling activity while I went to do a weekend shop at local Sainsburys... Husband having a quiet Saturday read in bed - domestic tranquillity.........Put CD on in car, happily singing to self, loudly actually - I like that CD and know the words, and no-one can hear me...

Shopping done. Bother cant park near house - live opposite church and an orchestra are rehearsing for concert tonight. Have to park for a moment on yellow lines - with emergency lights flashing so no one hits me coming round the corner - open door and start to dump bags in hall quickly. Daughter called something out, didnt hear her properly as I went to pull more bags in before anyone noticed the car... Second load in,
 'Becky can you help?',
'Sorry mum,  Cadburys (see my profile pics) has had an accident on rug in sitting room, I took Guiness and Badger to the park, Guiness has been badly stung by a bee on her foot and her face is swelling up, I have phoned the vet and he says come straight in - its an emergency. Dads getting up he will drive...'
Check dog - distorted face, lying heavy and immobile on settee - oh gawd... dump frozen stuff and shopping quickly on hall floor so car empty, ask daughter to put all shopping away as soon as she has finished cleaning up the messy carpet.....  Husband ready, collect Guiness - not looking good- wont even look at me, not focussing, no tail wagging and total dead weight. HURRY. HURRY. MOVE OUT OF THE WAY STUPID CYCLIST - THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. NEED FLASHING LIGHT AND SIREN....
Five minute drive to vet, husband dropped me at door - straight in to vet,
immediate injection. Poor Poor Guiness - so passive, so worrying, but no squeak when the needle went in - normally she squeaks like a baby as she cant stand pain..... Wonderful vet we have, total calm and the dogs trust him, Guiness even flicked her tail...
'Go home and wait a few hours, ring if you need me, use ice packs to get swelling down, she will be fine....'

THANK GOD - this was about six hours ago. And we have just taken Badger and Guiness over the field. No running - just walking happily with her mum, and able to put full weight on her paws. And her face has gone down too.  End of bulletin.

Can I have a quiet Sunday now?

thank you whoever it was who just commented on this blog - and referred to an epipen - unfortunately the cloud eliminated your name - but Guiness and I are grateful for the support! She is sleeping peacefully now...

That happened with one of my dogs too so I understand fully. Shame, poor Guiness. I hope she's doing better today? And I hope you get your quiet Sunday too Mocks, you deserve it.

And let me just add that with all the animal abuse that goes on in the world, it really warms my heart when I see people who love animals and show so much concern when one is hurt. One member on here once wrote something about saving a mouse then giving it a grape to eat. I smiled when I read that - it's just about the sweetest thing I've ever heard.
