If your not writing this who is?

Ha Ha, the weekend! My favourite time of week. Play time, fun time and happy time.

I am sure that there is a perfectly logical case to be had for working a four or even a three day week. I am fortunate and am only obliged to be at my place of work for 35 hours. I am doing that in four days and largly my employer is happy enough to overlook the fact that I am not around on Fridays. If I really went for it I could easily do it in three days but not many students would appreciate their classes ending at ten o'clock at night! Wouldn't it be great if Friday became officially a weekend day!

Whats all this got to do with writing? Well, I struggle to find the time I would like to actually sit down and get on with it. I live on my own and have no kids, I work ridiculously short hours and even have three days a week off, but it seems to fritter away. I struggle to get even  two hours. I think I will have to free myself of some more burdons on my time. I threw off the shackles of ironing years ago, why flatten your clothes to then unflatten them as soon as you put them on?

The folks that write (or indeed make music, paint, draw, sing etc) who have all the responsibilities of a proper adult life get my unswerving respect and admiration. Which leads me to think.....come on Gaz, sort it out you lazy git!

That's it that's the answer, I am a lazy writer.
Note to self stop writing blogs and go and get on with your project!

Well I work 3 days a week, Gary- I know- lucky cow! The other two days I take care of my two toddlers. I write when I can, which is difficult when two lively boys are constantly fighting for my attention (or simply fighting each other). I also run twenty miles each week and I do all the ironing etc. So, all I can say is- what the hell are you doing with your time?' ! Come on- write summat (other than a blog). :D

Hi Gary.....they say that writers can find any excuse to do other things, anything other than actually write. I have an art gallery, and work part time as a guide in a castle! I still manage to write though and have finished one novel..(unpublished natch!)...and have several others on the go!...Now contemplating a trilogy!
Finding time is not easy....you just have to disciplined. Alot an hour or two each day..try to make it the same time...and sit down and write!
Oh and log off from the cloud!...I know...it's so easy to stay on here...and it's a great place for ideas etc....but when you are going to write...log off..it's too tempting!
    Good luck!

If you only dream of being lucky you probably won't be...
I used to work in scientific research, where it was often said, 'The harder you work, the luckier you get'. I imagine that applies equally to writing as well.
Needless to say, I quit science without winning a nobel prize :)

This is all so true. I too am very fortunate, in that I am self employed and a fast worker, so I get my work stuff done in break neck speed and can then saunter doing my own thing. However, my problem is the opposite I think, I need to have something to show for my time. If I make jam, I can't just peel and slice one day, cook the next, bottle the next and label lastly. I do it all one shot 'wham bam thank you mam' style, and then I can proudly stand behind my jam and say look what I did today, and give myself a gold star!. Now writing is completely different, so I tend to sit up till all wee hours, avoid my work completely and even after all that, am still not finished, drat!!!

Definitely, allotting time is imperative, and I am fortunate enough to be able to allot my best, most productive, most inspired part of my time, and then when that time is over -put it down ...

Oh and absolutely, WC is great, but won't get the job done!
