Let it play! Let it play.

THE OLD MAN

(singer)

The tears have all been shed now
We've said our last goodbyes
His souls been blessed
He's laid to rest
And it's now I feel alone
He was more than just a father
A teacher my best friend
And He'll still be heard
In the tunes we shared
When I play them on my own.

(Chorus)

I never will forget him
for he made me what I am
though he may be gone
Memories linger on
and I miss him, the old man

(Son)

I’m sorry dad’ wished we had kept in touch. but I’m here now; I loved you dad.

(Singer)

As a boy he'd take me walking'
By mountain field and stream
And he showed me things
Not known to kings
And secret between him and me
Like the colours on the pheasant
As he rises in the dawn
Or how to fish and make a wish
Beside a fairy tree

(chorus)

I never will forget him
For he made me what I am
Though he may be gone
Memories linger on
And I miss him, the old man

(Son)

Went back to the old works yesterday dad; sat where we used to sit; all them years ago. You and me drinking tea

I hated you then dad, but now I know the truth.

(Singer)

I thought he'd live forever
He seemed so big and strong
But the minutes fly
And the years roll by
For a father and a son
And suddenly when it happened
There was so much left unsaid
No second chance
To tell him thanks

For everything he's done

Oh, I never will forget him
For he made me what I am
Though he may be gone
Memories linger on
God I miss him, the old man

(Son)

(Crying uncontrollably) You should have let me known dad.

Now I am the one that is wrong! the curtain's closing; and it’s all to late! you’re gone!

Very very very powerful! And so true - we tend not to value those around us that we love, until they are no longer with us... (sniff sniff)

Excellent. You really got this across well. Although I think maybe they can still hear and know now even if they are on another plane?

Yes I agree Barb; our guardian angels are around us all the time (ever found little white feathers?) today I found a blackbird (looked like he couldn’t fly or something) in the garden, I thought oh no! I bet those cats have had a go at him/her, I went over to him/her and gave it a gentle push with my hand, he/she came walking back to me, I done the same again with the same result. Just then Rooney (our cat) arrived quite a distance away at the bottom of the garden; Rooney’s eyes were fixed on the blackbird; I picked the bird up and was just thinking that I would have to do the humane thing (as much as I hate doing humane thing) suddenly the bird started flapping in my hands; I opened my palms and it flew gracefully away? I don’t know if it had flown into something and stunned it’s self or something, but it was a spiritual experience what ever.

It's lovely when you get a little "visit" from nature like that. When I was living in Yorkshire, I needed to cut through a graveyard to get to the train station. One summer morning, I opened the gate and went to walk in but something made me pause. As I stood there, a mother fox and two cubs made their way around the headstones, rolling about in the grass. It was only a few minutes but it was great just to stand there and watch before they slunk off through a gap in the stone wall.

I love that image, Barb. I like wandering around in graveyards - it's so peaceful and quiet with everyone dead like that.
