Maybe next time

When you entered the church

And everyone turned, to see the bride,

My eyes were on you, my precious daughter, not her.

With new, long curls in your hair

And flowers in your hands

Pink, white and delicate mauve -

Striking  contrast

Against the rich dark blue of your long silken dress.

And I could not stop the tear from rising to my eye.

When the signatures were written

In a very special book

And we all sat and faced the group

Gathered at the front

Waiting to start.

Special friends of the bride, together for years,

Singing, sweet, gentle harmonies

Talking of love.

With such pride in my eyes

It was you I watched

And the tears began to fall.

Outside on the grass

The memories of the day

Were to be captured and printed

And you waited, standing close

To one who should be treasured

And cherished

Forever.

Standing together

In matching dark blue – so cool and sophisticated

And beautiful

Maybe next time.......

You caught me with a right hook there Mocks. Does the 'maybe next time' mean that things didn't work out?

No - its fine Weens, all is well......honestly. The maybe next time refers more to am I going to have to buy a hat yet......???!!! Emma was looked fabulous as chief bridesmaid and Chris is gorgeous, and better still he has been thoroughly approved by Badger - our rescue dog, now aged 6.

This in itself is amazing - she was badly treated by a bloke when a small puppy, hates men outside the family and is very nervous. So Chris was well warned three/four years ago when he came to meet the parents (ie us) and dogs (ie Badger and Cadburys - the old spaniel in the ode) for the first time.

Expected knock was heard on the door, every single member of the family became instantly available to intervene in case Badger went ballistic. Enter Chris. Badger fell in love with him. Instant putty in his hands and has been ever since! And if he is good enough for Badger he is good enough for me!!

And at the wedding mentioned above in the poem, Sarah's mum - ie Brides Mother - had a hat. A wonderful hat. And if ever I do need such a hat she is going to take me to the lady who lives in Newton Abbott who knows about these things.

Hence the emotion in the poem. And the comment maybe next time.......... it will be my turn to wear it...

What ever you do though...... SHHHHH..... DONT TELL EMMA!!!
