On the streets at Christmas

I know the Yuletide's come;
Lights and trees and glitter,
Children all a twitter,
But wind and frost so bitter.

I know the Yuletide's come;
Mulled wine in paper cups,
Angry, crowded shops,
And giftwrap paper cuts.

I know the Yuletide's come;
Frantic faces everywhere,
From loving glance to icy stare,
To each shop the people tear.

I know the Yuletide's come;
Though turkeys be far from me,
No presents beneath a tree,
No Christmas Star I see.

    I know I know. Talk about bringing the festive mood down. It actually started life as a happy poem. But that's life. :D
