Our First Festival Freebie Favourites

A happy Easter to one n'all - and some good news.

All Festival goers were promised that three lucky people would be picked for free extra help & support by the WW. We've picked the first two of those:

  • Kerry Fisher. Who won the comp on Saturday night, and got an agent very interested in her completed project ... but not quite interested enough to offer representation. That agent is, however, very keen to see Kerry's WIP, so we've promised to help Kerry with that, as soon as she's ready for us.
  • Our very own John Onceupon. His MS has dangled tantalisingly close to publication standard for a while, but he's got one agent very interested in his work - and with a bit more editorial work from him and a good old shove from the WW's finest, I've every hope that he'll finally gets the success he deserves
It's been brilliant being able to pick out people for help like this. Truth is, we've already had amazing success in securing Festival-goers representation (I've got more good news to announce on that front shortly), so it's lovely to be able to give a leg-up to the almost-but-not-quite-yet people.

Kerry and John have every chance of making the grade, I'd say, and it'll be an honour for us to help em get there.

(feeling embarrassed) It's thanks to Harry and all at the WW and the Cloud that I've had the confidence to stick at writing a project I knew would be challenging to write and a difficult sell from the start.
Debbie and Emma in particular have helped me begin to think of myself as a writer, and Julie Cohen gave me some priceless criticism at York, which is the basis of the drafting work I'm doing at the moment - not so much rewriting as re-shaping.
But with you friends around me, I now think The Blackbird Effect won't take much longer than the four years (this month) it's already taken. And then there are at least eight more books (some for children and one non-fiction) I want to write: I promise I won't hang around so long in the writing of them!

Well-deserved on both counts. Popular choices and an exceptional service over and above the call of duty on behalf of WW. I really, really, REALLY hope that this can make the difference and we can get these two published. We would have to have a full-on Cloud party to celebrate. Bring it on!

It brings sunshine into our lives - WW and John being catalysts, conduits and cracking good at what they're doing to help all of us. Many, many congratulations on this success being continued well into the next millenium (although I won't be around at that time)

    Alcopops tonight then, John?

That's fabulous news for both John and Kerry. I've every confidence they will deservedly reap the rewards of their hard labour,.
You both must be feeling so excited. What a step....
Loads of luck to you both.

Well done WW for all your effort and the continuous help you give to everyone. Not only those who are ready for the leg up to the next stage but also for helping those of us who still have a little further to go to reach that stage.
    So thanks from me.

Thank you, folks – I still feel a bit dazed. I went from a series of rejection slips to a 'nibble' to Harry's unexpected offer in two days! And on the same day, a kind client put a good review of my storytelling on an information-sharing website for people providing services to people with learning disabilities – and I got an immediate booking!
It looks like a busy May – I'm going to tidy the workshop in anticipation.

Brilliant news, well deserved. Congratulations to John and to Kerry - is that the sound of high fives I hear?
WW lives up to its billing too in helping talented writers take the steps to publication - how great.

And John, I'm sure it'll be a soaking wet May - ideal for a spot of intense editing ;-)

Thank you so much for all the good wishes...there is great generosity of spirit on this site! I cannot praise WW and Harry enough for giving me confidence to carry on writing after four years of sending off manuscripts into a big black hole and wondering whether I should just stop deluding myself. So a huge thanks to everyone at WW...I will try very very hard not to let you down!

Great news for both - congratulations! John's been on my list of stars-in-the-making since Debi and I first met his writing in a one-day workshop what feels like years ago, and I thought Kerry's writing was just terrific at York!

Congratulations guys, i'm so pleased for you. Two deserving and amazing folk! Good news stories about people you know and respect are just as good as getting good news for yourself, if not better. :)
