Random Musings - Brokened

Published by: Jaxx on 28th Dec 2010 | View all blogs by Jaxx
I have fallen over in my new heeled boots and broken my arm. :-(

This wouldn't be so bad, except that it's really quite hard to type with one hand.

And the cast is so ITCHY!

AAAAAAArgh!

Last time I wear stupid heels.

Oh no! What bad luck, Jaxx. I sympathise, having broken my wrist four times. And it doesn't help when everyone laughs and asks if you were drunk, or tells you to take more water with it next time. Grrr!

The good news is that the cast should become more comfortable when the swelling in your arm starts to go down.

It's always an awful shock when you break a bone, so I hope you start to feel better soon.

Oh no!! broken limbs are not good! I have broken a few too, and yes it will become more comfortable soon, there is always the 'ruler down the cast' option, just don't tell the doc!

Hope you feeling better about things soon, Jaxx - it will be off in no time and you will be typing away again.

Oh and don't be put off wearing stupid heels, we need stupid heels! All the best to you :) xx

Sorry to hear that Jaxx. I've only ever broken my little toe, or dislocated it I should say! And that was painful enough!

I know you were looking forward to getting more Southlander written whilst you were off work, so hope you do managed to get a bit done whilst you were able.

Take care of your arm and here's hoping the cast is off in no time... Minxie x

Thank you all, I appreciate your good wishes!

I suppose I should be happy I didn't break a leg - At least this way I can get up and down the stairs!

Yes, the nurse told me very firmly not to use any knitting needles or pencils to scratch, but at this rate it may be necessary for both sanity and sleep!!!

I did get a lightweight 'fibreglass' cast in black, which I think is really for kids but I think she took pity on me. If you ever get the option (and I hope none of you break anything!) I recommend it as it's lightweight and breathable.

    But still sooooooo ITCHY!

A ruler is definitely safer than knitting needles or pencils, which might puncture your skin. Is the cast unbearably itchy all the time or do you just get the odd itch? If it itches constantly, I suppose there might be a chance that your skin is allergic to something in the cast. On the other hand (sorry, no pun intended), knowing you can't scratch somewhere is almost guaranteed to provoke an immediate itch. :)

I think I have a bit of grit stuck in the elbow region. I also get terrible heat rash so I'm doubly doomed! But I am sure the fibreglass is going to be better than plaster so I can't do too much complaining or they might take it away and replace it with something worse!

I'm going to have to make a concerted effort to distract myself with some writing so I don't think about it. With the effort it takes to type one-handed, I'm going to have one very strong arm and one little weedy one in five weeks' time!

Aww, thank you dear Wrathnar! I feel very loved. :-) I'm not sure if it's your mission to make the world a better place but you're doing a good job of it!

Jill - Yes, it is weird! But if you can do it then so can I. I hope you are all better now, though, and forging ahead with the creativity!

Hang on, were you wearing the boots on your arms and trying to walk on your hands? Was this after a couple of Chrismas drinkies? Silly billy.

Anyhow, poor you. Hope it settles down soon. Darn that nurse for putting itching powder down your plaster cast!

Ha ha! It does feel like that is what she did!

No, the boots were definitely on my feet - I still have blisters on my heels to prove it!

Sticking to my trainers for the new year I think.

There's nothing for it, you are just going to have to learn how to type with your nose. Sorry to hear you have been in the wars, what a way to start the new year. Still, more material to use in your writing.

Ha ha! It's a long enough nose, and I probably could! I appreciate your optimistic outlook, too. Hadn't thought of it like that! :-) Happy New Year x

Eew, natsy! Breaking bones is never a good move Jaxx, but we don't know that until it's way too late. Take care and get knitted soon. Best wishes.
