So... How am I getting on?

So, last time I did one of these, I was at my personal writing-epithany type thingy. Eloquent I know.

It's been a few weeks now, So i feel that my last blog could use a bit of an update. Can't just leave it there and go quiet, can I?

Well, it's working. Right now I'm writing an epic high fantasy that is really basically genre-typical mush.  It's trashy, a bit silly, and I can't honestly see a publisher going near it with a barge-pole.

As a result, I'm having so much fun again! It's a weight off my back, killing that little self-expectation gremlin that was making me write with my head instead of my heart. I'll romp through the thing until it's done or until I'm bored with it, and then I'll move onto something new. If I finish, it'll find it's way online.

My fictionpress account works nicely to scratch that itch that demands a finished work have something done with it. It's nice to know that people out there are enjoying something I did. To an extent, it's all I really wanted. Oneday I'd still like to send my words out to the wider, general public, but for now, this really helps. Another person added my old story to their favourites list this week, which is perfectly gratifying.

But, all of this comes at a price.

Relaxing my brain has opened the inspiration floodgates again. I have too many stories! I don't know where they all went, but they're back! Now I don't know where to turn my efforts. I wish I could write ten at once. As of this moment, I am seriously considering two at once, the second being a bit outside my preferred genre, which is appealing. Has anyone else managed this, or is it folly?

So, all in all, I guess I'm back!

So lovely to hear that you're enjoying your writing again. By trying out a few different genres, I found where my true voice was. If you'd asked me when I started out if it was historical crime, I would have thought you'd gone mad, but here I am wildly murdering people off, old fashioned style. Who knows where your efforts at something different may lead you.

Fabulous update - thanks for posting it.

This new thing would be a sci-fi (kind of?) so it won't be a massive leap, but i feel a real excitement towards it that I really don't think i can ignore. Last time i felt this, it went well. Here's hoping!

Yay, dude! Delighted to hear your creative juices are flowing again.

I always work on more than one thing at a time, so if I get stuck on one, I can carry on with something else while my subconscious works on the blocked thing.

You mentioned writing with your heart, rather than your brain (your keyboard must get quite sticky). I kinda suspect that I write with my gut, and maybe also my nadgers (my keyboard is a disgrace!).

Writing with you nadgers must take amazing muscle control, man.

Yeah, I think i can carry two at once. One my typical fantasy fluff, the other my new thingy... work on one when i get bored of the other. Might just be perfect!

My gods that really looks awful if you read that back and assume I'm talking about nadgers.

Woo! Good for you Valkia, glad to hear all is back on track :)

I'm currently working on my main MS and it's two sequels, my 2nd MS and an ongoing series of short stories for my blog. Like Wrath said, it's sometimes good to work on multiple things. When you can't get one thing right you move onto another. Works well for me and is worth trying out!

Oh, and, yes that does sound a little awful!

I could still do a sequel for my first story. I still have the plan, and i know the characters well.

I get stuck though, because it hinges on a really awesome character that i want to save for something else, if i can.

    Bah!

You're enjoying writing again - yay! I don't think writing two at the same time is a problem as long as you have a clear idea of your storyline and characters and you can give them your all when it's their turn. Thanks for the update and long may your new found inspiration continue...

I haven't tried writing two different stories at the same time because I know it wouldn't work for me. When I write, I'm immersed in a vacuum and need total concentration.

However, I have written two different character chapters within the same story - and that does work - and it really speeds the story along - and best of all I can FINISH the story.
