Something for Charity

Published by: Autumn on 12th Jul 2011 | View all blogs by Autumn

Hi Cloudies.

In the absence of a massive publishing deal *sigh* I have decided to put my book online and have set up a JustGiving page for donations to Breast Cancer Care. I was considering the self-pub route, but that would eat into any donations to charity so at least this way, the info has a chance to get out to the people who will find it helpful and might make the charity a few quid.

Writing this book has also enabled me to find my 'voice', actually finish a writing project and it has already helped numerous people, which I am very happy about. If you know anyone who might appreciate my book, please direct them to my website lisajdonaldson.com - it's all for a good cause.

Cheers! xx

Well done, dear Autumn. I'll link to this post on Facebook and Twitter. Hope you get a really good response. This sounds like a really good decision. You wrote the book for particular reasons and taking it in this direction means that you have achieved all of your original aims. And more! Finding your voice is massive and I'm sure you have many more words in you.

So ... what's the next project???

Aw thanks Debi - that is very kind. It was a really hard decision to make, as the first (well-respected) agent I submitted to said she was 'gripped' and asked for the full MS. Anyway, as you rightly say, the book was written to help others and raise money for charity so will hopefully now realise its potential.

The ecstatic joy I felt when I got the agent request made me more enthusiastic than ever about writing and I am now turning my hand to commercial fiction. I have completed the terrific 10 week Novel Writing Course here at the WW and done some reading about plotting, so onwards and upwards! Thanks for your helpful advice in York btw - it really meant a great deal to me.

Autumn - I suggest you put the link to the Justgiving page on the Cloud. Got to make it as easy as poss for people to donate. Traffic needs to move in both directions ie from book to justgiving and vice versa.

I am putting the remaining chapters online over the course of this weekend. I am thrilled to report the website got 150 hits on its first 2 days. (Doesn't seem a lot compared to others but I just love to know that people are reading my book - what a thrill!)

I've had some touching emails, and I had Breast Cancer Care office on the phone yesterday to ask how they could help promote it. Hopefully a review will be put in the next issue of Vita, (twice yearly glossy mag), I'm on their website and FB pages, and I've got some lovely RTs on twitter.

Would appreciate any comments for the guestbook, or any RTs if you are on Twitter.

Hope you all have a great weekend, despite the lousy weather. My daughters are on their way to Ibiza with their Dad right now. Middle daughter Sophie, 11, called me from the airport to say she wanted to donate some of her holiday money to 'Mummy's Charity'. Awwww!!

    Lisa. x
