The Science of Story

Hi guys and gals,

I have posted a new blog on Persistent Writer that could potentially help all of you.

A couple of months ago I began talking to a wonderful writer on Twitter called David Baboulene. David is a published author and has a regular spread in Writing Magazine. I asked him if he would mind being interviewed for my blog and he agreed! I can't tell you how excited I was that he accepted. I'm now proud to call David a friend (we chat almost every day!). He offers amazing advice and i'm hoping to work with David in the future on some projects as well as organise seminars for him in the autumn.

Please take a look at what David has to say and visit his website / blog. I have learned so much from him in the short time I have known him, and I know that you guys will too.

I hope that you find this useful.
PS If any of you need any help or advice about setting up a blog, i'll post a blog on here about how to go about it. Let me know if any of you are interested xx

Excellent stuff, Kiks. It is affirming and inspiring. Hope you had a great holiday and I haven't forgotten about our discussion re website, Twitter, etc. Right now, based on everything I learned in York, I'm head down, rewriting and editing (it's funny how just the thought of that needs to sit for a few weeks before headway gets made, although I think I've just started to make some!) Once it's done, Ill come back to you re the netty stuff. Anyway, as David said, I need to get off the internet and WRITE!

Isn't there just a touch of Samuel Smiles in this advice? Something of the evangelist? Is David American?
Anthony Trollope wrote his novels in the morning, before going off to work. He was much censured when he announced his writing agenda in his autobiography.

Hi Mike, I can see what you are saying now that you have pointed it out. No David is very English, he lives in Brighton. The book is loosely based around his PhD studies and theories. There is a more in-depth book coming out about subtext.

Thanks for posting the link. It's very good advice, succinctly put.

Why thank you Alanboy. I only ever want to help fellow developing or aspiring writers. He does have some interesting theories on subtext. It's made me look at my novel in a whole new way...

Just read the post on your blog, Kiki. Really interesting and insightful tips that I've taken on board. And like you, I'm now scratching my head over subtext!

Lol, I spent ages going through some of my chapters and looking at subtext points. You should look at one of your chapters analysing for subtext and make notes; it's interesting. Good luck lol. If you need any help, let me know :-)

Thanks for that! Very inspiring. I'm new here and have been messing around online all day to avoid writing! Now I feel that I actually should get offline and write!

The world of blogging is a bit of a mystery at the moment! Although I suspect it may help me channel my thoughts. I'm currently trying to move away from the constricts of academic/ freelance healthcare writing and switch to something more creative. Some days it feels like a big jump lol

Oh my goodness, yes Lindac21, that is a large jump! Lol. Creative writing is much more fun but your background will be be so helpful. :-)
