Updating move to Dorset

Hi all fellow Clouders. All who hae asked me how te move went and what has been happening.

The move was daunting - we did it - we still have not decorated, or opened the boxes.
The air is wonderful, whatever the weather, the scenery superb.
There are a lot of activities and art groups, concerts, and writing group. However, I have a slipped disc, low back and have exacerbated my long standing neck injury so I am wishing I could go back in time.
I read cloud, and hope to be better in a while but from experience it will be weeks/months not days.
All my editing/writing and painting plans are on hold. It is sad and everything sits temptingly outside.
Would I swap being back in Cambridge and better than I had been for ages; I have to admit that I would - only because I now have an unknown future and do not know what to do for the best.
I have to be hopeful that I will regain some of the new found freedoms that I have enjoyed briefly.

It must be so fustrating after all the waiting to have finally moved but not yet be able to take full advantage of your lovely new surroundings. Don't be tempted to try too much, too soon, but surely the time will come when you look back on this period as a fading memory put into shade by all the wonderful new experiences you will have been enjoying in Dorset after these rotten pains have gone for good.

Hi Bren - that is such bad luck. As somebody who has swallowed far too much Naproxen and Tramadol and God knows what over the last few years, I really sympathise with you over the neck and back pain. There's little worse than being exhausted when you, quite literally, can't get your head down! I do hope it abates enough for you to take advantage of everything around you soon. The social side does sound good.

Oh Bren- I didn't realise you'd been so poorly. I hope you get better soon. Just continue to take things easy- the house will get there in the end. xxx

Ooo - ouch, Bren! A bad back is so painful - I had sciatica when I was pregnant with Emily (she would lay on the nerve...), and it was agony. Take it easy and get well soon! (And I am so jealous of you moving to Dorset - that's my ideal place to live. We're going to Lyme Regis on holiday next year... I just adore Dorset so much. Such a beautiful place!)

Thank you all for your lovely messages. Very needed! Having left all our dear friends behind and not able to go out and make more it has been difficult.
Sitting still is all I can do. I was told by one GP don't sit still and the one who deals with my neck I was to sit very still!! :)
    My btm is spreading.....:)
All those nice names - people that although you are cyber mates are important and I like reading about the things you are doing. I wanted to let you all know that I do read CLoud and try and keep up with you all. Feel like a Spy sometimes.
    Thanks again.
Athelstone I am sorry you suffer too. It was a painful nightime and frustration that damaged my neck again - plus a b...great pot hole!

Ah, poor you. Moving is one of the most stressful things you can do, so now that the clocks have gone back and winter approacheth, I give you full permission to hibernate all winter and emerge like a butterfly next spring. Don't fight your body - give it (and your soul) time to heal and adjust.
House work will wait until you're good and ready. It always does; that's what I find. x

CW, you have expressed sentiments so beautifully above ~ looking forward to Bren 'emerging like a butterfly next spring'. However, Bren, I do hope you will occasionally open your eyes during wintertime to give us all a twinkly smile... Jxxx :)

Moving home is so exhausting - I've done it eleven times - and it sounds as if it's not just your back that feels dislocated. Give yourself and your disc time to settle, which it will, and then take time to slowly feel your way around your new environment. Good luck with it all.

Swanage is a lovely place. Hope things improve and you can enjoy the sea breezes. Suggest reading Anthony Trollope. I know this experience has been cpmpared to drinking hot chocolate but look at the schisms at St Pauls? Where is Mrs Proudie? It seems that Mr Grantly has resigned!
