Getting stuck

By Valkia
We all do it. We all get stuck, don't we?  That unpleasant moment when you realise that you can't quite connect plot element A to plot element B, or you can't quite get that new character or scene right?

Yeah, so thats where I am right now. Balancing right on the precipice of a major plot element, only to find that it's coming in awkward and I  can't quite figure out how to fix that.

Now, I've been here before, a million times. Of course now comes the tricky part.

How does one deal with the problem? What happens next?

On personal experience, this chapter will end in any of the following ways:

1) Wait. The right inspiration will come eventually. This can take between one day to forever. This solution occurs approximately 40% of the time.

2)Ignore it. By the time I get round to it in the edits I'll have probably figured something out. Let it be awkward for now. This solution occurs approximately 20% of the time.

3) Sulk and abandon the whole thing. I'm a terrible writer!  This solution occurs approximately 10% of the time.

4)Sulk and shelve the project for an indeterminate amount of time, claiming to be working on a side project in the interim. Never actually return to the original story. This solution occurs approximately 10% of the time.

5) Have a sudden surge of false confidence and decide there isn't a problem after all. Have exactly the same problem again when I re-read it in editing. This solution occurs approximately 10% of the time.

6) Have a sudden crisis of confidence and procrastinate on the internet for several months until I feel better. This solution occurs approximately 10% of the time.

7) Think logically and calmly about the problem, break it down and identify where I am going wrong, then putting in a good honest amount of time and thought into restructuring the problem area, so that i ultimately come out with an improved story, due to my balanced and rational problem solving process. This solution occurs approximately 0% of the time.

How will my current problem end? Well, buggered if i know. It's kind of a lottery. Or perhaps, more appropriatly, like rolling a dice...
