Seen too many movies, or guilty?
By BrenAs my neck and shoulders are still sunburnt and our blood more designed for summer heat than winter we were soon shivering and headed back to the car. We were parked on a viewpoint, and even though I have seen this scores of times, I couldn't resist taking a couple of photos of the heathland and distant sea. As I climbed into the car I heard the squeal of tyres on tarmac and then brakes on gravel as a couple of young men parked next to us.
My attention caught, I noticed that the left wing of their car was damaged and held together with masses of black tape. (We used to use elastoplast or an old stocking on our Morris 8). Heads bent, it looked as if the lads were about to roll a cigarette paper. Jokingly I said to my husband, 'I bet they are rolling a joint.'
Eager to see what my photos looked like I held the camera up to look through viewfinder - it was only coincidence that it was pointed in their direction. The youth nearest to us put his hand across his face; they thought I was taking pictures of them - so I played along.
My phone rang and I answered it and happened to look in their direction, I couldn't help it, they were only yards away.
They were watching us. Being the only other car, and us being older, and having read Marion's messages, I was a tad intimidated. Reaching into the glove compartment to get a scrap of paper to write down the message from my daughter, was a step too far and the lads reversed into the lane with more haste than they had arrived. The passenger still had his hand up to shield his face as he looked back.
As they pulled away we pretended to make a note of the number. We were laughing so hard our sides hurt. They streaked off round the lane with us making old fogey comments like, 'Look at that, no wonder the car is in bits, if they spent less on hash they could afford a new wing.' 'It's idiots like that that spoil an evening drive, you take your life in your hands just five minutes from home.'
'You've been watching too many Eddie Murphy movies and..'
Then, a different car arrived, sleek and black with smoked glass windows. We have seen it before, parked outside a local junk shop, where yesterday, the man who was selling us a £2 stool, mistakenly revealed a hefty wadge of blueys as he opened his bum bag. (He couldn't take that much money if he stood there for a season.)
The driver behind the smoked glass did not look at the scenery as most people do, but directly at us.
Now it was our turn to leave.
The lads had made a phone call too, only we knew this driver would not be playing.
In a small town like this we could be implicated in skullduggery for playing a joke on a couple of youths who were perhaps guilty and thoughtthat they were going to be reported, or that we were plain clothes police. :) As if.
Now we began to wonder if we had seen too many drug heist movies, but decided it was wisest not to stay and find out.
The tyres didn't squeal as we drove off but it wasn't the smoothest exit we have made.
I am glad that the dried leaves that I put into my fairy cakes to ease our aches and pains grows easily on the banks of the stream, then no one else is involved.

Little Clärchen and Disney 2D animated movies
By claraw
WARNING: This might sound cheesy for some.
When my mom asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up; by that
time I was arround six years of age, I did not answer
`Actress' , nor 'astronaut' nor even
'mommy' .
No, I, being the unique, "special" being some of you have had the
lovely pleasure to know arround here, answered: ' I want to
be a Disney animator.' I swear my friends, this is a true
fact.
So, since that dream was frustrated on early years of my
life; not for lack of talent, I am actually a pretty good artist,
but for thousands of other reasons; preferring to write was one
of them, the stupidly low income of brazilian cartoonists
was another; I dove inside the world of 2D animation
becoming a massive fan of it. Yes, I am married, 25 years old,
worked for 3 years in one of the biggest tech companies in the
world, majored in Business marketing at the best university from
Brazil............and I love, LOVE Disney 2D movies, (actually I
don´t fancy much the old ones, like Cinderella, and Sleeping
Beauty, although I do love the Jungle Book and Aristocats), from
The Little Mermaid to everything created ever since. I love it
all. There, said it.
I could care less for facts like that in the true tale, the
little mermaid turns into bubbles. I love that Disney changed it
and made her end up with her prince. There, said it again.
Don´t hate me, I´m being honest.
I also like the 3D movies, surely, such as Monsters
Inc, or Toy Story; they have good stories, but regarding the
anatomy and general look of the characters, they always look
awful to me, whilst 2D is perfect in it´s simplicity,
and beauty; it is just art, lads. The songs, the princesses,
the heroes, colours, all!
Without further delay, I now reach the cause of my post: I
will watch the Princess and the Frog in a few
hours, with upmost anticipation.
No matter what people say, Disney 2D movies will always have a
special place in my heart. Inside my brain, when I see a Disney
2D movie, I go back to that day when I said to my mom I wanted to
be a disney animator. And I remember how fun it was back then. If
you look closer on these moments, you will see the curve of a
child´s smile on a grown woman´s face; and I do believe we all
need those kinds of smiles nowadays.
Don´t we?
