Your comp entry made me smile at the end, but it was a serious subject that gave me chills to begin with. Clever twist.

I'm intrigued to learn your thoughts after you've read the whole story, nba. Loved the book and the writing. I do sometimes pre-empt a word, especially if I'm careening along, eager to get to the next page, but if it becomes too predictable the joy ...

I may give it another try, the idea of growing your apples, well anything fruity is appealing. The dwarf variety may be hardier so fingers crossed. :-)

Mmm Braeburns are yummy. Lucky you, Whisks. I planted a fruit tree that was half quince and half apple - last year it was half dead, this year it finished its journey... You've got a lemon too - I bet it tastes better than shop bought. :-)

Cue the spine-chilling music, Newbie, for that comp entry of yours, and a close-up of that knife... Ooh, I can't watch!

And thanks to you, Newbie. There's a threat to your piece that lingers for a while after reading and a dislocation about what and who to believe. Liked it a great deal.

Thanks Newbie, I also enjoyed Mrs Stuart getting her just desserts. It was a shame poor old Hamish the builder had to get it too, but Mrs Stuart is not the crowbar wielding type. I can't say that your super visual ghosts didn't inspire me slightly with my descriptiveness. Your's was a great ghost story, there is much more to be afraid of in the living world than the dead. I don't share some of the other's optimism for Jack and his family. I suspect that Jack will inevitably succumb to his inner darkness. ;)
