You can add me to the four. Unless I am already included. I like your stuff, Mat, and always read it, even if I am woefully useless about commenting.

That's interesting, Squidge. My nastiest characters are all female. And most of the authors I take to are male, though by no means all.

As a child with a voracious appetite for reading I got through endless Enid Blyton. So did loads of boys I knew. OK, maybe they didn't go for the Mallory Towers series, but there were plenty of adventure series that appealed to both genders.

n-b-a "much" is a bit strong, but yes. I was thinking of the Blues Brothers version.

This puts me in mind of an old joke from the Philogelos - a fourth century (?) Greek joke book: Barber: How would you like your hair cut, sir? Customer: In silence please.

I loved your piece - keep on rolling. (That said, I now have the "Rawhide" song stuck on the brain. Thought I'd tell you, so you could, too. My pleasure.)

Welcome back, Mat. Much water has passed under the bridge since you so abruptly deserted us. But, as a drainage and irrigation specialist, you would know as much.

I think they have a place in a certain style of comic writing but should be looked at carefully (oops!) to make sure each one earns its keep.

I think I might like to read your comp entry in context of the WIP it's taken from. Sounds like a rollicking ride :)

Thanks, Bella. This one wasn't an extract, it was written for the comp and yes, it was sad beyond belief. Cathartic.

Thanks, Bella for the mention about my comp entry. I think I got it wrong but never mind. I read yours and it's still so sad. Feel for you.
