Thanks, guys. Kate was right about having to leave our comfort zones. I really did not enjoy writing that stuff. I supppose that's the great thing about these comps - taking us to darker places than the ones we normally inhabit.

Thanks re the comp, Hel. Yours was a good, dark piece. Great depiction of the monster that can rear within a mother under those circumstances.

An excellent comp entry, Alan. Scarily dark but horribly realistic.

Thanks for the comment on my comp entry, Hel. I watched a terrifying documentary about a young man who was attacked by a bear and should have died. I don't know how but he survived. Beyond words.

I love the humour in your comp entry - the boys becoming friends again while the 2 mums fight it out and the men watch!

Another very strong comp entry this month. The horror of trench warfare, of killing or being killed. Brilliantly written.

Excellent comp entry D of Dartford. I could really picture those wrestlers in the ring from your precise, vivid description. A nice twist at the end, too.

Thanks, everyone. Good point, Hilly. I don't think I've written anything happy recently. Really wish I could do humour or wit. Can you? I'd love to learn!

Just read your comp entry peice Hel, great peice of writing. Really loved the way the repeated paragraph at the end became infinitely more powerful. Great stuff.
