Information
  • Are you a ...?
    Unpublished writer (so far)
What genre do you primarily write in?
    Fantasy
If you write in more than one area, what is your next most favoured genre?
    Sci-fi
    Are your reading habits ...?
    Omnivorous
    Who is your favourite author(s)?
Alan Garner, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Jane Austin, Agatha Cristie, Garth Nix, Cornelia Funke, WB Yeats, Sassoon, Pat Ingoldsby and Shakespeare
And your all time favourite books? (You can change these at any time, by the way ...)
The Moon of Gomrath, The Lord of the Rings (all three), Pride and Prejudice, The Importance of Being Earnest, Hamlet, The Silver Crown, Sabriel, Inkheart, The Weirdstone of Brisingermen, Peter Pan, The Princess Bride and the Hound of the Baskavilles.
What are your working habits when you write?
    Procastinatory
Are you the edit-every-sentence-ten-times type, or do you prefer to let rip?
Prefer to let rip and edit afterwards
    Your ultimate writing ambition?
Just to get a book published really. I want to tell stories.
    Your worst habit?
Not finishing a story once I hit the thirty thousands word wall. Probably starting in the middle of stories or not writing in order. But leaving random words out of sentences occasionally is a problem too. *damn dyslexia*
Your opinion on the books industry?
Too much celebrity and hype, but good books still get through
    Where do you write?
Usually curled up on my bed with my laptop and unhealthy amounts of tea.
What else do you want Word Clouders to know? eg: do you have 9 cats / like paragliding / eat nothing but tinned fish / work in the bath / live in Kettering?
Well I have a large odd family, do parkor, rockclimb and kayak, am a vegatarian, own more books then I have shelves for and have a not-so-secret marvel comic book collection. Recently I've taken up swing dancing!

About

http://offwithorla.blogspot.com/

"Small, green eyes, usually holding a large mug of tea."

This was all I'd written for a long time on the Cloud, until I'd found my feet. To be honest though it is true. ;D
I've been writing since I learnt how, which was actually around age eight because I'm pretty dyslexic. It took me about four years to really learn to function properly with dyslexia and stop it from taking away from my school work.
I'm an amateur actress and singer. I've been in a few small shows around Dublin. I speak fluent Irish and some day when I have more time I'm going to write some interesting books for teens 'as Gaeilge' instead of the typical ones about farming or misery or both. :D
I've always been into politics and help out at various protests around town, like anti-war, Gay rights or against cuts to Social Welfare, stuff like that. I also work a bit with homeless people and plan on doing more of that after school.
I've got about seven books on the go, three of which are finished in their first drafts. I'm a vegatarian eco-warrior with an interest in mythology and that's about it! Love, peace, rock 'n' roll and all that jazz.

Hey. And thanks for saying hey, I guess. This is so much more worthwhile than Facebook, I find myself wishing I'd found you guys sooner.

Were you in Edinburgh for the Fringe, or is that a silly question? It might not be, since you're a writer. Last year I completely avoided everything festival-related and just doggedly went on scribbling away at notes in assorted corners throughout the city until it was over and I stepped out into the pamphlet-littered aftermath of all the good stuff I'd missed. Don't worry - I corrected that this year. What did you see and do?

Yup. Well I grew up in Wicklow, but I lived in Dublin for about ten years and still work there. Did you see Cornelia Funke has a new book out? Is she any good?
