What a lovely blog, Jill. So evocative and thought-provoking. We went on three different vintage steam railways last year and loved all of them. Your grandson does sound like a sweetie pie!

Spangles Thank you, Jill! And exactly the same applies to you! (Except for being Spangly, of course, which might not appeal!)

Jill More or less well, thanks. Developed a heavy cold last weekend, which is proving hard to shift. However, off to sun and blue skies soon, so that should finally see the back of it! :)

Spangles Sorry to hear about your cold, Jill. I am also recovering from a heavy cold, so can sympathise. I hope the sun and blue skies act as the best doctors in the world. Glad to hear that all is going well, Squidge.

Jill Well, I'm actually hoping that it is clear by the time we fly off to sunny climes, as that isn't for about a couple of weeks. Glad to hear that you are recovering from your own cold - perhaps certain remedies are helping?!

Spangles Actuallly, I think it was triggered by a remedy! So I let it all come out and avoided taking any more remedies for the time being. My homeopath prescribed what he called a 'constitutional spring clean' and it really has had an extraordinary effect! So I hope I'll be bright and shiny after this. :)

Jill There is a saying - 'All the bad coming out' - but I would not dream of applying that to such a lovely lady as yourself! I'm sure you will be bright, shiny and truly Spangly soon.... :)

MinxieAD I think that when you're a spiritual person you are open to things, so you probably did pick up on something! It's always best to keep an open mind and I kinow that you always do! My son used to hate cutting down the bank on the way to my mum's house. He'd always want to walk around the long way, which is pretty unusual for a boy from when he could walk until he was around 10! It turns out there was a cider house where the green bank now is and they used to hang people there! I'm sure he picked up on it...

Spangles Thanks, Mixie and Ama. They were beautiful and didn't strike me as being haunted. Haunting possibly, especially as they back on to a disused mental hospital. But they are beautiful, even if we did all end up covered in mud!

MinxieAD I love that about a day out in the woods, Spangles. Coming home covered in mud and bit chilled and sitting in front of a fire with a hot drink! Nothing quite like it. I wonder if the woods you visited are more scary at night? Glad you got back safely though x

Amarantha Everything Minxie said. I love woodland at night but there has to be a moon to make them magical; snow moreso

Spangles When I lived in London I used to walk through some local woods to get to the Tube each morning. They seemed ordinary enough, although there were times when odd things happened - hearing music when no one was around, for instance. But then one night, when it was snowing and the moon was out (just as Ama says), everyone in our flat went for a midnight stroll through the woods. My flatmates didn't notice any difference in the woods, but I did - I felt there was a brooding and malevolent atmosphere. I discovered, some time later, that the woods were regularly used for black magic rituals (and a neighbour showed me the evidence), so I wonder if that's what I had picked up on, even though I knew nothing about it at the time.

About

I sometimes ask myself what I'd do if I didn't earn my living from writing and editing books, and I have yet to find a satisfactory answer. So I'm very grateful to be a published author. So far, it's my non-fiction that's been published but I've set myself the goal of getting a publishing contract for my fiction too. You'll find my website here: www.janestruthers.com

No worry, no hurry about message reply! I also get long delays for receipt of messages sometimes. Isn't it a beautiful day? Nippy at the moment, but lovely to see the sunshine here again. It's been so grey since Friday! :)

Thank you, Spangles for the anni. wishes. It is misty again and so we may postpone a trip to the coast, which is quite a drive away and go instead to Ely and Wicken Fen close by. Equally good and watery! Have a lovely day too. :)

Sunshine and also a good day in other ways for you? Sounds exciting. I'm having treatment with my acupuncturist early this evening - at last! - and so I think mine is going to be a continuing good day. Also, I have booked to attend a dowsing workshop with a healer in April, so am looking forward to that enormously. A friend has been to one with her and benefitted enormously in many ways. JX

Good morning, Spangles - promising to be a lovely day here. Hope same with you. Have a wonderful St David's Day.

(Thank you for comment on my photo - new beginnings yet again for me, I decided, and solo photo close up is my statement affirming that fact!). JX :)

I can definitely recommend Peter Ashley's books - he's a photographer and illustrator with an eye for England as you remember it from Ladybird and Observer's Books!
