Information
  • Are you a ...?
    Unpublished writer (so far)
What genre do you primarily write in?
    Romantic fiction, chicklit, etc
If you write in more than one area, what is your next most favoured genre?
    Memoir
    Are your reading habits ...?
    Sophisticated
    Who is your favourite author(s)?
    Harper Lee
And your all time favourite books? (You can change these at any time, by the way ...)
    To Kill a Mocking Bird
What are your working habits when you write?
    Perfectly balanced
Are you the edit-every-sentence-ten-times type, or do you prefer to let rip?
    Some self-editing
    Your ultimate writing ambition?
    1. Get my romantic novel MARIZA finished and well written. 2. Get it published through traditional publishing or self-publishing. 3. Write a second novel.
    Your worst habit?
Being disorganized. But that's the typical fault of creative types, isn't it? So, in my case it's a best habit...
Your opinion on the books industry?
Too much celebrity and hype, but good books still get through
    Where do you write?
    Anywhere. Mostly at home.
What else do you want Word Clouders to know? eg: do you have 9 cats / like paragliding / eat nothing but tinned fish / work in the bath / live in Kettering?
I was brought up in a farm in a rural village in Portugal. The constant contact with nature, the seasons and the traditional farm rituals of making wine, olive oil, and family gatherings are very much part of my identity and my writing.

I don´t think it would be possible (or advisable) to write a whole novel from a strict Deep POV. It would not sound natural. And what we aim to achieve is an easy fluidity. When I´m writing I´m not thinking of POVs, Psychic Distance or Showing ...

I´ve been using Deep POV since I started writing fiction. Luckily for me, my first critique came from someone in the publishing business that steered my writing in that direction and even though she did not mention it by name at the time, possibly ...

Here are some tips from my writing groups: 1) Flash Fiction exercise: each person chooses one thing / object that they use every day and writes a couple of paragraphs about it in whatever style they like. When I did this exercise I wrote about my ...

Donna I think the WW will be shooting themselves in the head if this community ceases to exist as a FREE membership open to all. I don´t know how many members it has now, but it must have tens of thousands at least, each and all potential customers for the WW products. If, in future, there is a paywall for this community, the membership will dwindle and potential members will look elsewhere and may buy elsewhere. I think that if the WW needs to increase revenues, it should go the other way: create more products at lower prices. I think that instead of bundling products, it should un-bundle some courses, such as creating a short course for "How to Write Deep POV", "How to Create Conflict in Romance", "How to Write Cinematic Scenes". Another very popular idea would be to do informal social events because we writers love to socialize...

Donna I, for one, won´t be paying 360 pounds a year, because I only dip in and out whenever I feel like it. Sometimes I pass several months without opening this site because: a) I´m busy writing b) I´m busy reading c) I´m taking a break from both. I think 30 pounds a month is quite a lot of money for most and with so much information available completely FREE online, many (most?) will just say Good Bye!...

Jill I will not be paying out the sum either. I have paid out for professional editorial critiques in the past, which have been useful, if expensive, but enough is enough at my stage of life and writing.

"Donna" commented on John Alty's Blog "Is the story everything?".
I think what Stephen King means by "the story is everything" is that the story should be the first thing for a writer to get right. Only after we have a good story should we attempt to write it. Why do we read fiction? Because of the story. What is ...

Scarlett, What you refer here as "a lie", most authors refer to as internal / emotional conflit. An exemple: in Pride and Prejudice Liz does not want to embark on a marriage of convenience because of her principles: she believes a woman should only ...

Squidge Worth checking the details - these kind of things are usually for unpublished authors, and the Bookseller report doesn't go into comp details.
