  • Are you a ...?
    Unpublished writer (so far)
What genre do you primarily write in?
If you write in more than one area, what is your next most favoured genre?
    Are your reading habits ...?
    Who is your favourite author(s)?
    JM Coetzee, Suzanne Collins
And your all time favourite books? (You can change these at any time, by the way ...)
Memoirs of a Geisha, The Hunger Games, Lonesome Dove, The Name of the Wind, The Fifth Wave, Unwind, The Bridges of Madison County. A good book is a good book no matter the genre.
What are your working habits when you write?
Are you the edit-every-sentence-ten-times type, or do you prefer to let rip?
    Ten times? Why so little?
    Your ultimate writing ambition?
Write a successful series of sci-fi and dystopian books.
    Your worst habit?
I eat an obscene amount of sugar, mostly in the form of chocolate. Oddly I'm still skinny.
Your opinion on the books industry?
It is a tough game, but everyone does their best
    Where do you write?
    My closet
What else do you want Word Clouders to know? eg: do you have 9 cats / like paragliding / eat nothing but tinned fish / work in the bath / live in Kettering?
I printed out a new copy every time I edited a chapter and I saved all the old chapters. Now I have a four foot high stack of paper in my closet. I figure when the stack gets taller than I am, its time to publish.

I’ve started writing three years ago and have written five books. I haven’t tried publishing them yet because I’m a perfectionist and want them to be as good as they can be. My educational background is in psychology.

I’ve read over twenty-five books on writing and am a little obsessive compulsive. I changed the first chapter of my first book five times and edited all of them about thirty times so I edited my first chapter 150 times.

This kind of sounds like a resume because it is. I’m looking for someone to collaborate with. All writers have strengths and weaknesses and it is very difficult, almost impossible for a writer to become good enough at the craft to be able to do all things well. I would be surprised if even 5% of writers have mastered enough aspects of the craft to be truly balanced and those people have probably been writing for over twenty years.
I am looking for someone to work with closely to bring our books to the next level. Someone who is strong where I am weak. I’m strong in dialogue, introspection, conflict, and ideas. I’m looking to work with someone who is a strong world/scene builder. Preferably someone who writes in YA and/or sci-fi/fantasy, but not necessary. I don’t write in other genres, but I read them. Collaboration is the only way any of us who haven’t dedicated our entire lives to writing are going to get an advantage. Screenwriters work together to make movies the best they can be. It makes sense that people who write books should do the same.

The book I wrote is mostly pop, but I am trying to infuse a literary element. I love the pacing and tight plot of popular books, but I also love the prose and psychological insight of literary novels.
