Road to a First Novel

I though this might be of interest. J V Jones is a well known writer of "high" fantasy but the writing tips she shares are releveant to us all.

Of particular interes is the iten entitled "Road to a First Novel" (to me anyway).

    Very informative Malcolm, thanks for posting. I found the quote about "British disease" - the tendency for many British authors to write with a dark, depressing slant. American audiences want uplifting, happy endings. " Very interesting but I'll be honest, I don't know how much a writer should be willing to change in order to get published. We've had that discussion on this forum. Personally, I hate the American 'happy ending' mentality...bleh

    I have the Australian disease - we don't care how it ends as long as there's beer.

    This was very interesting and informative, Malcolm. I reckon many people on this side of the pond would regard the need for a happy, uplifting ending as the American disease!
