Information
  • Are you a ...?
    Unpublished writer (so far)
What genre do you primarily write in?
    General fiction
If you write in more than one area, what is your next most favoured genre?
    Short fiction
    Are your reading habits ...?
    Omnivorous
    Who is your favourite author(s)?
    Steven King
And your all time favourite books? (You can change these at any time, by the way ...)
Assasins apprentice - Robin Hobb The Tommyknockers - Steve King, the first grown-up book I ever read. Gateway - Frederik Pohl And many more!
What are your working habits when you write?
    Disciplined
Are you the edit-every-sentence-ten-times type, or do you prefer to let rip?
Prefer to let rip and edit afterwards
    Your ultimate writing ambition?
I just love writing stories, always have ever since I was small. I do it now for escapism, but what is the point of creating art if nobody ever sees it? I would like to plan and write an entertaining and readable work of fiction. Just to see of I can.
    Your worst habit?
I'm guilty of being self conscious, too safe, and holding back emotion. Could I write a sex scene? Not really. Could I publish dark and dirty thoughts from my own imagination? Not really. Ironically they are the things that make fiction worth reading.
Your opinion on the books industry?
It is a tough game, but everyone does their best
    Where do you write?
On my sofa with a beer :)
What else do you want Word Clouders to know? eg: do you have 9 cats / like paragliding / eat nothing but tinned fish / work in the bath / live in Kettering?
I have no cats and have no urge to go paragliding. I also rarely eat canned fish and live nowhere near Kettering.

Days clean, Zero. Good punchline. It could have been written from experience. Thumbs up. Nice angle on the subject of betrayal too.

Great comp entry, I really enjoyed the way your imagery built up to the final act. No I'm thinking, surely not! Then yes she is! Great stuff.

Well done on the comp entry. Gave me the chills. The language and rhyme really helped to create an unsettling atmosphere. Good work.

Thanks Newbie, I also enjoyed Mrs Stuart getting her just desserts. It was a shame poor old Hamish the builder had to get it too, but Mrs Stuart is not the crowbar wielding type. I can't say that your super visual ghosts didn't inspire me slightly ...

Spooky story, Healeymonster1, vivid descriptions of the creature and the discovery of the box drew me in. It seemed mean but I was pleased the bossy lady was about to receive a shock.

Liked your comp entry. That madly grinning visage in the rear view mirror is one of my pet fears. Allong with the bathroom mirror in the dark.

Right, no pressure then! Not sure if it will be as creepy as that last month. At the moment still hesitating between two stories.

Thanks Healey - I looked it up too, to check it meant what I thought it did. It didn't! I thought it was a Frankenstein's monster patchwork affair, but realising it was a small animated thing helped me finish the story.

I enjoyed your entry too, I kind of wish we had seen the box open, but it does leave us free to imagine what happens next :)

Loved you comp entry, I especially found the first half very chilling.
