(You can change these at any time, by the way ...)This could take a while! What are your working habits when you write?DisciplinedAre you the edit-every-sentence-ten-times type, or do you prefer to let rip?Ten times? Why so little?Your ultimate writing ambition? To publish many novels and be able to earn a living solely from writing.Your worst habit? My worst habit is being an absolute perfectionist, even with the first draft, every sentence must contribute something substantial or be removed.Your opinion on the books industry? It is a tough game, but everyone does their bestWhere do you write? At my desk on my PC at home, usually typing up hand-written notes from my ideas journal. I love writing. From the early spark that takes a hold and makes you unable to think of anything else, to the excitement of finally thinking of the perfect way to say exactly what you feel. Then of course, the hope and possibilities that come with actually finishing a novel! :)
I studied a creative writing module at university while gaining a degree in psychology. I have been very successful in academia and graduated top of my year, winning a number of awards and getting the opportunity to study for a PhD. Currently I am finishing the amendments to my 90,000 word thesis and will hopefully be a Dr of Psychology next year!
With this success has come a number of publications within the academic fields of psychology and disaster mangement. These range from published conference papers, to international journal papers and even a book chapter that is currently for sale in most good publishers. There is nothing quite like seeing your work for sale in WH Smith and on Amazon, that ISBN number is like a wonderful, magical code! :)
However, my real passion is writing fiction. Now that my studies are nearing their end, I am able to devote more time to becoming a 'real author'. I draw upon my knowledge and experience of psychology to help create my characters and really like to focus on their internal reactions and development throughout the story.
I am happy to help give advice to other writers too, as I think that feedback and support are both critical to success and general happiness of being a writer :)
