About
I am a gothic writer, focusing on what I term "psychological horror," something I believe is found in the writings of Edgar Allan Poe, who is the foremost influence in my writing style. I am not a slasher author, but my characters do succumb to the deranged mental attitudes that haunt their waking reveries. I have written one novel, titled, 'The Nursing Attendant,' which has been revised three times. I have enjoyed writing such a lengthy work, but short fiction is my true passion. I love the brevity and complexity of the short story, and the ability the work allows for true psychological exploration. My stories are almost always first person in narrative and are designed to allow the reader to see through the eyes of the demented, degenerated person, wheter killer, loner or behaviorally eratic.

by Sophs 7 months agoIn answer to ur question, we write just to write. - bit of buddist zen for you lol.
I think the best writing comes when you write for yourself, more fulfilling not having that pressure or agenda over your head. :) -
by Jenny_Meszaros 7 months agoRelaxing is important! And nature/the outdoors is fantastic for inspiration. The other day, I got up at 3.30am to watch the sunrise over the ocean. It was magical. What do you blog about? At the moment, mine is a little bit like a diary/account of my journey to becoming a writer. Never done anything like it before, not even much into Facebook, so trying to find my feet but people seem to be reading it so I must be doing something right. If you have any tips, I'd love to hear them. I blog on my website: http://www.jennymeszaros-author.co.uk/ Where can I find yours?

by Jenny_Meszaros 7 months agoHey, just working hard on my books at the moment and getting sunburnt a lot lol. Finding it hard balancing blog writing for the website with novels and other personal issues at the mo but then things will calm down again, and it's a lifestyle I wouldn't change for the world. So you've completed loads of projects? Good for you! Any plans to do anything with them or are they practice for other projects?
-
by Sophs 7 months agoYeah will def look into them. Have one project on the go at the mo. Its coming along slowly. Am doing one of the Writers workshop courses soon to help me give my story structure and learn the tools of the trade. How about you?

by Sophs 7 months agohaven't read Poe or Lovecraft. Will have to try. I guess my style tries to be like psycological thriller/horror. Lots of suspence, eerie, is it all in their minds or not, that kinda thing. Think horror is so much more effective when you don't actually 'see' everything. :)

by Elysia 7 months agoHey Writer - a little bird tells me you take a little Lovecraft as your inspiration? Me too... ;-) Always good to meet an appreciator of the Master. Cthulhu fhtagn!

by Sophs 7 months agoReally like psychological horror, more in films than books, much better that pure slasher horror.

by JD 1 year agoThank you for the welcome ^^
Yes actually, I'm writing a fantasy I want to finish which is why I joined this site. I hope it can somehow help me finish this project as I always move onto another project half-way through. =')
An extract can be found on the fantasy/sci-fi group, I'd love it if you could give me your opinion XD
