No sooner said than done! Ordered on Amazon. Intend keeping it to imbibe on holiday quite soon, otherwise jobs here may not get done if it is un-put-downable!

Jill Golly gosh, what a surprise early this Sunday 11th February ~ as if by magic I am allowed access to Cloud once more after several days of being locked out by the dreaded 403 error! Hello again, my Cloudy friends. :)

JD Jill from my experience, the 403s happen a lot from VPNs and company networks, where there may be more network traffic that the cloud can’t cope with and blocks. I think it associates usernames with problem networks too for a while. I’ve not used my VPN for a while here and seem to have been ok for the last month or 2

Jill Thank you for the information above, JD. Not sure what VPN is? 403 has only happened to me once before, but I do know that it happens to many! I'll now have to look up VPN, but not sure I will understand!! Have a good day...

I enjoyed this piece too, Mike. I think you know that our family, now in the States, have lived in London at various times. Also that our son and daughter-in-law have sun in choirs in various venues. Therefore, we know parts of London fairly well ...

We did love the sea but sadly we don't live there anymore, had to move back to the city. But luckily there is a river not to far away my dog can swim in.

Thanks for the kind words xxx

Thank you, Jill but it isn't my birthday today, not until May, although WC seems hell-bent on saying it is - this is the second time in a few weeks.

Enjoy your day, whatever you're doing. :-)

Interesting to read of your childhood memories of Aden, although as you say, 'sadly it is still a war zone...'

'Small Wars' is particularly interesting for me as we had older friends who were there in EOKA days and I didn't really know before the extent of what went on ~ only bits and pieces. Also, of course, it is always good to be able to imagine vividly the places written about in books, even if some the action is quite horrifying.

    Best ~ Jx

Good afternoon, Jill. I love re-discovering books on my shelves that I read yonks ago and re-reading. I think I particularly enjoyed 'Small Wars' as my dad was involved in one of the so-called Small Wars, in Aden. Some of my earliest memories are of the beach out there, often too hot to walk on, the goats in the streets, the shark nets, the barren volcanic rocks in the background.

Sadly, it's still a war zone these days with widespread hunger and starvation.
