by Minxie 2 years agoIt sounds like 'they've' been hanging around waiting for this day for a while, so don't think you've got much choice :] A double celebration when you think about it - completing one and beginning another... (that means more wine) ;)

by Rugby Anthony 2 years agoPolly, I'm waiting for the rest of me to come back from York, so I am not entirely sure who I am today. Maybe I'm not me anymore ... Time for a double espresso.

by ColinTW 2 years agoYes, overall I'd say my 1 to1's were good. It was a fast 10 minutes but I did feel they were talking about my writing and my story, not general comments. Having said that one of the agents had clearly read the submission much more carefully than the other and consequently she gave better notes.
I talked to Harry as I was leaving and he said not everyone was happy and some agents had been less than helpful. Next year he's thinking of running them only with book doctors - no agents. I think that's a good idea. -
by Minxie 2 years agoThat's good to know as I would like to try and get there next year, but would also be on my own if I do go - I have been hearing how clouders have been meeting up, so that is comforting... The venue must have been gorgeous with the weather we've had this weekend... It'll be good reading peoples' experiences of the weekend - especially the one to ones - hope yours went well - minxie

by Gerry 2 years agoThankyou Polly, nice to hear that. I felt somewhat like a man who, due to a slight mishearing, attended a meeting of the Natural History Society dressed as a naturist. (Or who attended a cookery session with the Vegan Society bearing veal and gammon.)

by Gerry 2 years agoHi Polly, I was the idiot who went on last, having taken the judging criteria seriously (1 Literary merit, 2 Performance, 3 Chutzpah) and calculated a Larger-Than-Life approach was therefore required. It wasn’t. The judges ditched criteria 2 and 3, which left only Literary Merit. And for that your best option is to stand at the microphone, avoid props-voices-drama. Just read the thing. Consequently, the quietest performances did best. (Not exactly a “death match... punked-up version of Authonomy Live... really outrageous and entertaining... loud, funny outrageous” etc)

by ColinTW 2 years agoHey Polly - I did look out for you but there were too many people. I found Johnonceuponatime who pointed out Tony and some of the others. I actually spent most of the time talking to non-WC - including a couple of new members who are co-writing (doing one chap each).
I enjoyed it. Interesting and a good atmosphere. What did you think? -
by Minxie 2 years agoi didn't go but looking forward to hearing about the weekend from people who attended - was it welcoming or a bit daunting... minxie

by Jane 2 years agoThank you for taking the time to read my poem. I hope I'm not wasting my time and following a desire that will deaden me. I appreciate the comments, as I'm frightfully insecure.

by Caducean Whisks 2 years agoYes, I did get an email, but worry not - they said to mention it at registration if you're worrying. See you tomorrow! Er, later today?
