About
I'm married and live in Surrey. I teach psychology to 16-19 yr olds - I prefer teenagers to younger kids. I write, direct, edit and produce my own films, grow my own veggies, love hill walking and ridding across europe on a big motorbike.
I've been obsessed with sci-fi all my life. I like all the old classic 70's shows and films which were innocent at the time. My biggest claim to fame is that I'm an expert on the 70's & 90's kids show 'The Tomorrow People'. I was a major player in the fan base for years, wrote the extras for the DVD releases in both the UK and US. I recently ran a huge charity event to clebrate 35 years of the show.
When I get into my writing I get a little obsessed and can't stop until I'm totally satisfied by what I've produced. My head lives in a fantasy world most of the time.

by angeriana 11 months agoHi Ama. I've just been busy with writing my script and family stuff. I'm also admin on a Face Book gruop that seems to have taken off. I often pop into the cloud, but when ever I try to repond to a blog or give feedback on a story my browser crashes. It doesn't do it on any other web forum but this one and it really frustrates me. I would like to contribute more but when it takes time and effort to read and write a review which then gets lost in the ether, it gets rather frustrating. So I'm around and watching - Jackie (hoping that this comment will actually appear)

by Amarantha 11 months agoHi angeriana. I'm so pleased to see you posting on the Cloud again.
As you know I enjoyed your story very much and - in your absence - wondered if you had slunk off to become a celebrity!

by angeriana 11 months agoMy book received another review - honest and insightful
I usually need a book to grab my attention quickly and the grizzly in your face prologue certainly does that. I would recommend that anyone who thinks it’s out of place should read it again immediately upon finishing the book – it sheds light on the completed narrative that might have been missed first time around.
I thought the early setting of the story was perhaps a chapter too long and the concept of the supreme alien intellect along side the primitive brain of the Human was over-referenced to the point of being tiresome.
One of the hardest aspects of any Human meets alien tale is achieving a realistic response from the Human. Of course it’s entirely subjective what a realistic response would be but in my opinion the story fails in that regard.
I like any sci-fi/fantasy tale to be more than just about little green men and space ships and this is the major strength of The Joining. The meaning of life, the search for a better way and fate versus free will are all recurring themes that are dealt with in a thought provoking way. The emotional side of the story leans heavily on the parent/child relationship and there’s no need for any deep analysis – the writing for this aspect of the story is successful.
One of the most enduring truths about the Human psyche is that no matter how well you think you know another person you can never really know what they’re thinking, and the book hints at (I think deliberately?) that no matter how deep the level of telepathic “joining” you can still never really “know” another person.
The war reminded me very much of the tale of the Romans and the Dead Sea Scrolls (again possibly deliberate, but a joyous coincidence if not).
The tale is not without humour. I did chuckle at the first football reference which was definitely the thoughts of the football widow rather than the confused alien. Other Earthly rituals which mankind sees as the norm are referenced in a way that make them sound utterly preposterous – which of course when analysed they usually are.
Anyone wanting a fluffy, not too complicated sci-fantasy story could read this book and be satisfied. If like me you want something deeper you’re left equally satisfied despite a few minor niggles.
I wouldn’t say I was left gagging for more, but if another instalment materialises it will definitely be on my shopping list. -

by angeriana 1 year agoI'm sorry, but it'll be a while beore I publish the next book in the series. I'm stalled at the moment completing my screen play. When that's done I'll return to Angeriana and her family in 'The Chronicles of Grimloch'. It's in draft form, but needs major plot changes. The Joining took me a year to edit and get to the point where I thought of it as done and I suspect this one will do the same.

by Amarantha 1 year agoAngeriana, how's the story going? It was cracking along at my last reading and I love the characters. Let me know when the next instalment is ready. xx

by Amarantha 1 year agoHi Ange,
I managed ... (Oh yeah? Truth is I didn't manage but couldn't help finishing off The Joining before going cff on holiday.) The whole tale hotted up so much toward the end that I was turning pages faster than I knew what to do with!
I feel that while the beginning was sweet and softly beguiling ... engaging in its way ... later developments just blew me away by the speed of their movements.
I feel that you have a trilogy I'd enjoy reading so do go on with it. I would love to follow the story of your characters from here on.
Best wishes with your work. Am, xx -
by angeriana 1 year agoAmazing! This morning I set myelf the task of writing the scene that links the all is lost moment with the excitement of the finale. It's the point where the hero takes everything they have learned throughout the story and uses it to find a solution to their problems. At 9.30 am I sat staring at a blank page, unable to find a way forward. Then boom it hit me. Four hours later I have my scene. Where the inspiration comes from I don't know, but sometimes its as if the characters are speaking inside my head. Am I losing my mind? I hope someone out there understands.

by angeriana 1 year agoThat's fine, Amarantha. Have a great holiday. I do hope that you're fiding the story okay to read. The type face is very small in the book.
