I do have a couple of pictures of "their" pilot. I know you would find them perfect, Spi. One with a pipe and a grin, very dashing. The other in the cockpit. I don't feel able to put them up here. I have no idea who he was or what happened to him.

Awesome warplane the DeHavilland Mosquito. Unusually made of wood, it was one of the fastest aircraft of its time, a supremely effective tactical bomber. 2xRR Merlin 1500hp engines, must have been a blast to fly!

I've always loved the DeHavilland Vampire, BTW. Mad looking thing!

I've got a Vampire in my second story, Wrath - it's a different kind of Vampire story...

Alan - no, don't put them up here - it doesn't feel right. I've got them in my head already...

Daa da da da dadadada daa da da da dadadadah do do do do doo-do da da dadada pom pom pom.
Tried to upload the theme from 633 Sqn but in the end this was the best I could do!
Must have been a bit of lottery joining the Fleet Air Arm in those days; a sexy gofaster fighter bomber Mossie or go up against the pride of the German fleet in a Swordfish. Which one is better? Only one way to find out.....
Vampire's are nice. My favs are the Vulcan bomber, Mossie, Sunderland and the old Typhoon; not as elegant as a Spit but there's something about that huge air intake...

How sad is it that I know, without looking it up, that that music was written by Ron Goodwin.

This lot also had Barracudas for a while. Not sure of the timing. Not such a handsome aircraft though.
